Hello Hurricane Families! We are excited to announce that we are putting the final details on summer swim team! Thank you all for your patience while we navigate uncertain times, with guidelines and requirements changing by the minute sometimes. Keep in mind that there may be further changes, but we are confident that we have a good plan in place to move forward. Please read this entire email for important information! Please join me in welcoming our new coaching staff: Jenny Courtier ([email protected]) and Kaylee Kilkenny ([email protected]). Jenny comes to us with an extensive background in swimming and a passion for young athletes. As a veteran Physical Education teacher who is now serving as a Dean of Students at a local elementary school, Jenny has enjoyed working with youth of all ages. She is excited to return to the world of aquatics after a brief hiatus. Coach Kaylee grew up as a multi-sport athlete and has been swimming since she was 6, but didn’t start competitive swimming until the age of 9. Kaylee, having grown up in many different states, has experienced swimming for many different teams. After a long road of being in and out the water for many years due to different injuries, Coach Kaylee discovered the wonderful world of coaching and fell in love with it just as much. She has coached a competitive team for two years now and is overjoyed to continue on her coaching journey. Coach Kaylee hopes to be able to share her love of the sport through coaching as well as making each day a fun one! Kaylee is absolutely overjoyed to be working alongside her fellow coaches and swimmers in this upcoming season! Unless something unforeseen happens, we will start practice on Monday, June 15th. We will practice 5 days per week, Monday through Friday. Senior swimmers (generally aged 13 and up, and highly skilled younger swimmers) will practice from 8-10 am, and juniors will practice from 9-10:30 am. Mondays and Fridays will be designated dryland days, and seniors will not get in the water on those days until 9, spending the first hour of practice on dryland. We plan to practice until Friday, August 7, for a total of 8 weeks. Coach Kaylee is in the process of moving to Colorado Springs from Virginia, and will start with us sometime during the week of June 22nd. The emphasis for practices this summer will be skill development and fun activities, including an intentional focus on proper technique and effective conditioning. Both in and out of the water, swimmers must still stay 6 feet apart unless they are siblings, so the structure and content of practices will adjust to use all available space. Swimmers must be members of the Colorado Springs Racquet Club in order to join the team. Locker rooms remain closed, so swimmers should arrive already wearing a swimsuit. To streamline fees for our swim team families, the cost for swim team is a flat rate of $200 this summer. This $200 will be broken down as follows:
- $37 USA Swimming Registration for the swimmer
- $13 toward USA Swimming Registration for the team and coaching staff
- $150 team membership fees to cover coaches’ salaries and other expenses
That breaks down to $25 per week or just $5 per practice! We will be taking attendance and noting arrival and departure times of swimmers to comply with health department requirements. We will follow social distancing guidelines and frequently sanitize any equipment used. Swimmers must not share caps, goggles, or other equipment. We are in the process of updating our team website with current information (csrcswimteam.org). However, registration is open and live on the website! Look for the Register Here button on the right navigation pane. Let me know if you have any questions! Karen Owens, Parent Representative 719-290-7272 (call or text)
