WHO ARE WE?

WE ARE CHINOOKS!

The Skagit Valley Family YMCA Chinooks was formed over 50 years ago and our club is a YMCA and a USA Swimming year-round competitive swim team offering high-quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to national competitor. All of our staff, as certified USA Swimming Coaches, have access to the most comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches of any sport in the United States. They provide assurances that the time children spend in swimming will be quality time. Competitive swimming builds character. Instills discipline, provides leadership, enhances self-esteem, promotes physical fitness, and teaches teamwork, all of which can be used throughout a lifetime. The Skagit Valley Family YMCA Chinooks is a non-profit club.

Here at the YMCA, we help build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for swimmers of all ages. The YMCA's core values Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility serve as the foundation for our team. The Skagit Valley Family YMCA Chinooks strives to incorporate the four core values into all of its swimmers. We are constantly growing and training young swimmers to maintain a well rounded competitive swim team. Please feel free to ask another member or coach any questions you may have.

Mission Statement

The Skagit Valley Family YMCA Chinooks is a year-round dual YMCA/USA Swimming age group competitive team. We offer high quality coaching and technical instruction based upon the swimmers age and ability. Our goal is to provide every team member an opportunity to improve skills and achieve success at his/her level of ability---from novice to national level. All of this while instilling a love of swimming, self-confidence and perseverance.

Team Philosophy

The Skagit Valley Family YMCA Chinooks philosophy is to teach the swimmers how to set long and short-term goals while practicing Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Caring. Through the participation in one of our age/ability groups, the swimmer gains knowledge of the four competitive strokes, learns the starts and turns for each stroke, and gains experience by competing on a swim team. The Junior and Senior groups work to achieve goals such as gaining mastery of strokes, turns, starts, and to improve their times by learning how to improve their fitness and health. We also like to have fun!!!
