Spencer Dornin, Head Coach and Director

Spencer was a member of the USA National Team from 2000-2007 (World Championship Team in 2005). He was a four year starter, All-American, and team captain at UC Berkeley before playing professionally in Hungary, Italy, and Australia.  After retiring from professional water polo, Spencer was an assistant coach for the varsity water polo program in Laguna Beach, California in 2007-8.  He coached in San Francisco from 2008-20012 with the SF Tsunami master’s team and the Palo Alto varsity high school women’s team. Since moving to Dallas in 2012, he has been coaching at St. Marks School of Texas. Email Coach Spencer

Nikola Zivaljevic, MD President

Nikola was born and raised in Germany and started playing water polo as a youth during summer vacations in Montenegro. He played for the prestigious and historic Swimming and Sports Club (SSV) Ulm est. 1846 in Germany during medical school. His coaching experience began when he was recruited to oversee the development of the club’s youth players in 1994. After relocating to Pittsburgh, PA, he served as the assistant coach to the newly established  North Allegheny Tigers High School Water Polo team and was the founder of its youth water polo program, Pittsburgh (Tiger) Water Polo Club. He served as the club’s Head Coach and inaugural President until 2008, during which time he recruited a full time professional water polo coach. The club has maintained its excellent track record in developing outstanding water polo players through three coaching changes and the High School won the Pennsylvania State Boys’ Championships in 2012 and again in 2013. Many of the club’s players have gone on to play successfully at the collegiate level in Division 1, 2 and 3 schools throughout the country. Nikola has relocated to Dallas in 2014 and has been working as a Hand Surgeon with Lankford Hand Surgery Association.  Email Nikola

Mihai M. Oprea, Director

Since 1997 Mihai has been a Teacher,  Head Varsity Coach and Aquatics Coordinator at St. Marks School of Texas for Water Polo, Swimming and Team Handball.  For the past 19 years, Mihai has served as the Men’s and Women’s Head Coach of the Dallas Water Polo Club. Prior to coming to the United States, Mihai trained as a player in 1984 – 1985 on the Steaua Bucharest, Elite League.  From 1986 – 1991 served as Player and Assistant Coach, “Sportul Studentesc” water polo team – Romanian Elite League. Mihai received his B.S. in Physical Education and Coaching; “Institute of Physical Education and Sports”; The Coaching School of Water Polo, Swimming and Diving, Bucharest, Romania. and M.S. in Physical Education and Coaching; “The National Academy of Physical Education and Sports”, Bucharest, Romania.  Mihai maintains numerous licenses and certifications.  Mihai is also the head coach of Trident Water Polo Club and St. Mark's Water Polo.
