Kathy Meltzer Head Assistant Coach

Coach Kathy is back for her fourth year coaching for the Wellington Dolphins. This year she is the lead coach of the 13-14 group. Kathy currently finished up her fifth year with the Prince William Swim Club Amberjax and is looking forward to a sixth year with them next year.

Kathy began coaching as a summer swim coach in 2005 with Meadowbrook Makos as a mini-mako volunteer in 2005 and then Head Mini-coach from 2007 – 2016. and currently with the Wellington Dolphins in the PWSL. Before coaching with Amberjax she spent one year with the Potomac Marlins.

Kathy is a level II ASCA certified coach, Certified Lifeguard, WSI Instructor and holds a Masters in Elementary Education. Coach Kathy teaches the Water Safety Swim program at Colgan H.S. in addition to being PWCS Substitute teacher.  Although she never competitively swam as a kid, she has been swimming since she was four years old and loves being in and around water as much as possible. In high school she took to seeing how many laps she could swim in her home town pool and really came to love distance swimming for fitness, often swimming 2 or three miles at a time for a workout. Later after college she swam for masters programs and improved her strokes.  Since moving from Arizona in 2003, she resides in Manassas with her 4 kids, 2 dogs, and enjoys swimming, walks with the dogs, the beach, and skiing in between being mom taxi and being the CEO of the Meltzer household.

Savannah* Halstead Assistant Coach
Coach Savannah has swum with the Wellington Dolphins for 9 years and the Osbourn High School Varsity swim team for 4 years, serving as Captain her senior year. She's served as an intern coach for the Mini Dolphins and 8 and Unders for two years, and a regular Coach for four years, in addition to working as an off-season coach during the winter.

Savannah cannot put into words how important the Wellington Dolphins are to her. The team is supportive of all swimmers and builds confidence in each other. She's benefited from that philosophy and will work to help others benefit from it as well. They are also the "fun" team. Over her 9 years with the team, she has been awarded the Coaches Award 4 times and the Dedicated Dolphin Award in 2017. Those awards are proof that you don't have to be the fastest or best swimmer, you just have to be part of the team and work hard to do your best. As a coach, she will help her fellow swimmers be the best they can be.

Coach Savannah is looking forward to another great season with the Dolphins!

Music is Savannah's passion. She is a graduate of Osbourn High School and a proud member of the school's award-winning show choir, CenterStage. She was also a member of the Manassas Chorale and performed at multiple recitals throughout the year. She's been known to belt out the National Anthem at different local events as well, especially during our home meets.  She is also a second-year student at Radford University, majoring in Music Therapy.

Missy Hayden Off Season Coach

Coach Missy Hayden has over 20 years of combined Swim Coach experience between the PWSL, year round USA Swim Club, and High School Swim, and currently Coaches for Endorphin, a Youth Triathlon Program. She is well known, and dearly loved throughout much of the Prince William swim community, with many of our own Dolphins having her as a Coach for various programs. She is very excited to be returning to our coaching staff.

Missy grew up in a swimming family, so much so that her Mother and Grandmother started their own USA Swim Club in 1981-the Prince William Amberjax. A swim athlete herself, Missy competed in USA Swim meets and in VASL all the way to the State Championships. Her start in Coaching led her to become all-around skilled in the Aquatics industry. As well as being a certified Lifeguard and Pool Operator, she has experience as a Pool Manager, Aquatics Director, Swim Instructor and holds AMLA certifications that allow her to train in Lifesaving and Pool Ops.

Coach Missy has a passion for instilling a love for swimming in her athletes. She feels it is not just a sport, but teaches real-world life skills that her athletes can take into adulthood. She also excels at “coaching the coach”, that is, helping to mentor junior Coaches to help develop the skill set needed to become a fantastic Coach.

Missy has been a Swim Mom to her own swimmers, and “gets it” from a Parent’s perspective. When she’s not on the pool deck Coaching, she’s wrangling her Brady Bunch of her own kids and step-kids as well as working full-time as the Assistant Community Manager for the Wellington Community Association.

Chuck Norris Dry-Land Coach

I am so excited to be back with the team this year as the Dry-Land Coach. I had a great off-season this year. My buddy Superman and I had a strength competition. Loser had to start wearing his underwear outside his pants.

I spent some time with my friends Clint and Arnold over at the new board game place in Old Town Manassas, but they got mad when I kept winning Connect Four in three moves. Since I finished reading the Internet, I decided to count to infinity...twice. I stopped by Burger King to get my favorite-the Big Mac. To earn a little extra money, I worked as a substitute teacher but that didn't go over too well when I filled in for the math teachers since I can draw a triangle with four sides and divide by zero.  When the weather was nice, I practiced doing wheelies on my unicycle.

I have been swimming since before I was born.  I won my first Olympic Gold medal in the 100,000 Meter Butterfly when I was twelve-years-old.  I once won an underwater breath-holding contest with a fish.

When I reached the wall, no one else had even dove in yet.  I never in my life had a false-start, because anyone who dives after me is declared a false-start.  Disqualifications were always thrown out by the Head Referee because I am qualified to do anything I please.  I get my strength from eating the coping off the edge of the pool. After surviving 37 fatal shark attacks, I retired from the pool and started coaching in my ample spare time because I had already figured out how to sneeze with my eyes open and lick my elbow at the same time.

This summer, again I will see to it that there will no practice cancelations due to fact that there will always be good weather.
