Bobby Lerch Head Coach

My name is Bobby Lerch and I’m the head coach for VOSD.  I started swimming for Va Oaks when I was 7 years old back when the team was first started (which was now 17 years ago!) and I haven’t wanted to leave this team for a second since.  Throughout my swimming career I swam for several club teams including Occoquan, Makos, and Curl Burke.  I also swam for Battlefield’s Varsity Swim Team all four years I was in high school and swam for UVA’s Club Swim Team while I attended college. After graduating from UVA I decided to follow my passion for education and have since become a high school teacher.  Luckily this also freed up my summers so that I could continue trying the be the best possible coach I can be for all the wonderful swimmers.

Even though I have long since aged out and my competitive swim career has ended there is still no way I’d rather spend my summers than with this swim team!

Brandon Settle Developmental Coach

My swimming experience includes a total of 6 years swimming for the Virginia Oaks Sea Devils, 1 season of Varsity Patriot Swim as well as 2 seasons of Occoquan Swim. Along with my swimming experiences I have also previously coached developmental for one season and peer coached for 3 years as well as giving private lessons. Some of the qualities I believe I have that will allow me to be an overall better coach include working great with kids, being organized, having leadership skills, kind, helpful, cooperative, understanding and being upbeat and fun. I truly think a coach for younger kids needs to be fun and energetic but also have the ability to give good advice and have good teaching skills. I also believe patience will be key when working with such young and inexperienced swimmers.

Chloe Palmer Assistant Head Coach
I have been swimming for about 8 years, all beginning here at VOSD. Going from Curl Burke to NCAP and now Occoquan, my love for swimming has kept on growing throughout my competitive career. I have had the opportunity to compete at 6A Conference and Regionals as well as the Junior/ Senior Potomac Valley Short Course Championships for the past 4 years.
This will be my third year coaching here at VOSD and I look forward to yet another great season with my summer swim family!
Claire Thompson Assistant Coach
Cade Burdette Assistant Coach
Daniel Wong Assistant Coach

Hi, my name is Daniel Wong, and I will be the assistant coach for 15-18 age group. I first joined the Sea Devils when I was five and have been part of the swimming community ever since. Currently, I swim in the Gold 1 group at the Nation’s Capital Swim Club. Along with club swim, I also compete for the Patriot High School swim team, where I was the captain this past year. At the 2018 Virginia State High School Championships, I was able to place fourth and tenth in my individual events, along with placing top sixteen in both relays. I strongly believe that a team who works together wins together and hope to create an inclusive and encouraging environment for each and every swimmer. I’m excited to see what the team has in store this summer!!

Austin Bacon Assistant Developmental Coach
Ashleigh Farmerie Assistant Coach
Hi! My name is Ashleigh Farmerie and this is my first year coaching for the Virginia Oaks Sea Devils. This team has been my home for 7 years and I am looking forward to making it 8 this summer. I am currently finishing my freshman year at Battlefield High School. During the school year I was a member of the Battlefield Swim Team and was one of 8 swimmers to qualify for regionals as a freshman. I loved being on a high school team and am looking forward to next year.
Other than Virginia Oaks and Battlefield, I have been swimming for NCAP for the past year. NCAP provides me with lots of experience and has really helped me improve my swimming technique. All of my coaches inspire me to not only push myself, but to help other as well. I am really looking forward to this summer and I hope I can help everyone succeed. Go Sea Devils!!
Joshua Yoon Assistant Coach

Hi my name is Joshua Yoon and I will be an assistant coach of the 11-12 age group this year. I first started swimming when I was 11 (5 years ago) for VOSD not knowing much about competitive swimming. That year, I joined a year round team called QDD and decided to pursue my swimming career from there. From swimming from QDD for 3 years I moved to Potomac Marlins for 1 year and OCCS for 1 year. Also, I swam for Patriot High Schools Varsity swim team. My goal here at VOSD is to help kids improve and learn to love swimming like I did when I first started out swimming for VOSD. I look forward to a great season!

Emily Copeland Assistant Coach

I started swimming when I was five and this season will be my 10 th year on the Sea Devils. I have also been a peer coach on the team for the last 3 years. I only swim over the summer, but swimming is and always will be such a huge part in my life. The best part about being on a swim team is not the practices or the meets, but the atmosphere. Everyone is so supportive and kind, and after all the years of feeling this way, I would love for other kids to experience the same joy I do every summer. One reason that I am so excited to be a coach is that over the years the coaches that I’ve had have been role models to me, not only in swimming, but in life, and I would love to be able to be that to younger swimmers.
