Notes on the Green v. White meet

For those of you new to the team, every year we hold a fun intra-team meet where we divide our swimmers into a Green team and a White team. We do away with the boring old strokes and concentrate on fun. This is a great opportunity to cheer everyone on at the same time! One of the highlights is our family relay that ends the night. Each “family” team needs four swimmers in any combination you can think of – grandparents, older siblings who’ve graduated, two families combined. If you are interested in participating, keep an eye out for a Family Relay sign up coming out soon. Because this meet takes extra planning, we need everyone to sign up earlier than normal. Please sign into the meet by July 12.

Side note : we need a few more volunteers to run the meet. If you are able to help out, please contact our jobs coordinators at jobs@rudgearrats.com and let them know.

Spirit Update – Don’t miss your opportunity to order our Wild Wild REST Conference shirts! Head over to this link, https://squareup.com/store/rats-swim/, and order a shirt for your swimmers and one for you (there is also a link on the website). Shirts are available as tees, tanks, and v-necks and range in price from $15-$24. We want to see a sea of green at Conference. Orders need to be in by Wednesday, July 10 to ensure our shirts are in before the Conference meet.

And speaking of gear, Amy Mason will have a Flash Sale of past Rats apparel at her tent this Wednesday at the Larkey meet. Prices range from $5 for tees and tanks to $15 for sweatshirts. Come check out what’s available before it’s gone.

Next week is Coaches Appreciation Week. We have a week of special ways your family can show just how great you think our coaches are. Swimmers – look out for posters at the pool to write notes of thanks to each coach. Parents – look out for a coming Google doc to write your appreciation that we’ll put together to gift each coach. More details coming soon.

Social Update – Our last age group social of the season will be tomorrow, July 9. The RatRace 13/14s Social will start at Rudgear Park basketball courts at 6pm and move on from there. If you still have not responded yet, please let our hosts know if you are coming or not at http://bit.ly/2XC3EpP.

Lessons – If your swimmer wants to tune up their stroke with some one-on-one instruction time with our coaches, they have sign ups available at these links:

President’s Message – Conference is fast approaching! We’ve still got 28 swimmers undeclared. Please sign up for Conference now. The Heather Farms pool is a fast pool where kids swim their best and have a ton of fun cheering on their teammates. Sign-ups are due by July 12. Let's get as many swimmers there as possible!  Be aware that entries for City Meet and Conference cost the team money. If you need to cancel after we have submitted your entry and we can't get a refund, we may need to charge you the fees.

Chris Connor, a local swim parent and host of the FlipTurns podcast, will be taking footage at our meet this Wednesday for his swim documentary on rec swimming in Contra Costa County.  This is a great opportunity to display our amazing team and pool! Be sure to deck yourself out in Rats gear. The footage will likely be used for a trailer, and is no different than the footage we take for our year-end video.  If you would like to opt out, please email me at president@rudgearrats.com. Notification will also be posted at the gate on Wednesday night. More info can be found at: http://flip-turns.com/documentary
