Rudgear Estates Polliwogs is a fun and exciting program designed for beginning swimmers who are not quite ready for swim team. We take swimmers as young as 4 years old. It is a non-competitive skill-building program, designed for group instruction with an approximate ratio of five kids to one coach. Polliwog coaches are in the water at all times and are trained and supervised by the REST head coach. With all of our current health concerns, coaches will be wearing clear face shields in the water while working with all Polliwogs. The goal of the program is to have all swimmers be able to swim a lap of freestyle unassisted by the end of the season. Polliwogs do not compete in meets, but we have them participate in our last home meet of the season so we can have the whole team there cheering them on.

Suggested pre-requisites

  • Swimmer should be 4 years old by June 15. If younger, swimmers must meet all requirements and be approved by our Head Coach and Coach Liaison.
  • Swimmer should be able to put their face in the water
  • Swimmer should be able to swim approximately 3 feet unassisted away from the side of the pool to the coach
  • Swimmer must be able to listen to instructions and follow directions
  • Swimmer must be willing to work in the water with all the REST coaches, without having the parent nearby
  • NOTE: On the first day of practice, the kids will be asked to swim for the coaches to assess their abilities and ensure water safety. If you think that your swimmer is not yet ready for Polliwogs, please consider signing up for private lessons taught by our coaches.

On occasion, a coach may make the determination that a Polliwog swimmer’s skills are adequate enough to join the 6 and under age group of the swim team. If this happens, the swimmer’s family will be asked to pay a prorated balance difference. They may also be asked to fulfill any jobs that have remained unfulfilled as seen fit by the Jobs Coordinator.

Practice Schedule

The Polliwog program runs four days a week: 12:00pm-12:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The cost is $195 per swimmer. Practice starts Thursday, June 3. We will hold a “graduation” ceremony at the end of the season on their last day of practice, Friday, July 17 to celebrate all their hard work.

It is REST’s goal for the Polliwog program to provide quality instruction while having a lot of fun and getting a taste of swim team!
