Carlos Mejia Head Coach

Coach Carlos has been coaching the Wahoos of Jacksonville since 2013. His coaching career in the US started in 2008 when he joined the YMCA in Ponte Vedra.  He also coaches the Providence Swim Team and Harvest Swim Team during the fall. He has developed swimmers that went on to continue their swimming career in college.

Currently his goal is to form a bigger year-round program that could serve the community; especially to those that cannot afford swim lessons or a swim team.

  • Coaching Achievements:

    • Multiple Swimmers qualifiying to FLAGS, Senior Champs, Sectionals, Junior Nationals Zones

    • Multiple records broken at the High School that he coaches since 2009

    • 4 swimmers express interest in swimming in college and all of them went on to do so

His swimming experience began in high school. He helped his high school team win the state championship for 5 consecutive years. He was also a part of Ecuador's national team, during which he won 3 gold medals for his country. (100 Breaststroke, 4x100 Free Relay, and 4x100 Medley Relay). He was also Ecuador’s National Champion in the 200 Breaststroke in 1996. 

Coach Carlos is married to Stacy Jarvis-Mejia and they have 3 kids; Ethan, Monica, and Ian . Theyall swim and they all work together to impact our community through the sport of swimming.

Stacy Mejia Coach / Instructor / Owner / Admin

Stacy is one of the owners of Wahoos of Jacksonville, Inc. She has worked with the Wahoos since the beginning in a more administrative role. Before making Wahoos a full time career, Stacy worked for over 12 years at UNF in multiple areas. One of her favorite roles at UNF was advising and teaching incoming freshman. She also advised athletes. Stacy has a Master's Degree in Education.

Stacy moved from behind the scenes to coaching/teaching in the water about 2 years and could not be more happy. She loves helping our swimmers get stronger to be able to compete! You will find her screaming for every swimmer at our meets. She also loves teaching kids how to swim. 

She is currently certified USA Swimming Coach and a Level 1 as a Swim Whisprer for our Adaptive swim program.

Meagan Lasoff Assistant Coach

My swimming career started at a very young age. I swam competitively since I was in 6th grade and continue all the way through high school. I have taught elementary school for several years and I am currently the Dean of Students at the River City Science Academy. I started coaching with the Wahoos in the fall 2021 and it is exciting to see the improvement in each swimmer every season. I am married to my high school sweetheart for 14 years and we  have 2 kids (Maebry and Bryson). They are also part of the Wahoos team.

Maggie Matthews Assistant Coach - Intros & Juniors

I am a student athlete who graduated this past year with Fletcher class of 2022. I started swimming for Coach Carlos in the fall of 2020. Currently, I am an Ocean Rescue lifeguard for the city of Jacksonville. I love working kids and am incredibly excited to be with the Wahoos. I am looking forward to assist our swimmers grow, become stronger, and reach their goals. 

Ainsley Baldwin Jr. Assistant Coach - Intros & Juniors

I'm Ainsley Baldwin! I am the oldest of 6 brothers and sisters. I have a lot of experience with little kids and I love that they are always filled with excitement. I coach/teach surfing in summer. I started swimming competitively with the Wahoos this year and I coached as a volunteer this past summer with the Intro Group. I'm so grateful that I get to spend more time with our little Wahoos and coach the sport that I love!  I love Wahoos so much and the family that Coach Stacy and Coach Carlos have built. 

Brennan Kline Jr. Assistant Coach - Intros & Juniors

I have been swimming competitively since I was 4 years old. I joined the Wahoos Swim Team when I was 7 and swam for several years. I am excited to be back this year as a swimmer and a Junior assistant coach for the little Wahoos!
