6 & Under

We believe this is a very important age for swim team. Our coaches create a comfortable working environment through routine. This creates a feeling of familiarity and comfort. During practice, we work on body position, breathing, arms, and kicking for all of the competitive strokes. We teach them about swimming rules, events, strokes, and more. We know that the best way to learn is by having fun, so during practice, our coaches create games that help work on specific areas such as breathing, kicking, and more.
When we have parents asking if their 3 year-old can participate, we usually look for the following:

  1. Safety is key: All swimmers need to show that they are comfortable in the water. During practice, we have 2 coaches for about 12-15 swimmers.  If you are comfortable with that situation and she is comfortable and confident in that setting she should do fine.
  2. Willing Participant: We are confident that we can work with any child who is a "willing participant" and can swim unassisted.
  3. Follow Directions: during practices it is important that all swimmers have the ability to follow adults directions and work to their best ability. We want to be sure that each swimmer has the best environment for learning that they can have.  If one swimmer is not comfortable and needs excessive help then we would not be able to provide the best possible environment to all of our swimmers.
