Information about River City Swim League:

  1. The events at each swim meet alternate between two schedules based on the week. The two individual events that alternate are the longer freestyle events (odd weeks) and the 100-yard individual medley event (even weeks), giving five individual options for each meet. Relay events also alternate between the medley relay (odd weeks) and the freestyle relay (even weeks). Each swimmer may participate in a maximum of three individual events and one relay per meet.

  2. River City has a rule that requires each swimmer to participate in at least three meets in order to be eligible to participate in championships.

  3. Also, each event that a swimmer wants to individually swim at championships must be swum at a dual meet first.

    1. There are six possible events from which individuals (with coaches’ consent) may choose. For children of ages eight and younger (age as of May 1, 2013), the events include:

      • 25 Freestyle,

      • 25 Backstroke,

      • 25 Butterfly,

      • 25 Breaststroke,

      • 50 Freestyle, and

      • 100 Individual Medley.

    2. For children of ages nine through twelve (age as of May 1, 2013), the events include:

      • 50 Freestyle,

      • 50 Backstroke,

      • 50 Butterfly,

      • 50 Breaststroke,

      • 100 Freestyle, and

      • 100 Individual Medley.

    3. For swimmers of ages thirteen through eighteen (age as of May 1, 2013), the events include:

      • 50 Freestyle,

      • 50 Butterfly,

      • 100 Backstroke,

      • 100 Breaststroke,

      • 100 Freestyle, and

      • 100 Individual Medley.

    4. Each swimmer may also participate in two relay events at championships. There is no limit to the number of relay teams that may be entered in a given age group.

SECTION 680 – CODE OF CONDUCT FOR RIVER CITY SWIM LEAGUE MEMBERS

The mission of the River City Swim League is “to develop interest and participation in amateur swimming in a safe and fun environment and afford the opportunity of skill development and team participation.”

The River City Swim League grants the privilege of membership to individuals and organizations committed to that mission. The privilege of membership may, therefore, be withdrawn or denied by the

River City Swim League at any time where the League determines that a member’s or prospective member’s conduct is inconsistent with the mission of the organization or the best interest of the sport and those who participate in it. In order to assist all members to better serve the interests of those who participate in swimming, the River City Swim League has adopted this Code of Conduct.

Any member or prospective member of the River City Swim League may, after due process, be denied membership censured, placed on probation, suspended for a definite or indefinite period of time with or without terms of probation, fined or expelled from the River City Swim League if such member violates the provisions of the League’s Code of Conduct, as set forth in 600.3 below, or aids, abets, or encourages another person to violate any of the provisions of the River City Swim League Code of Conduct.

The following shall be considered violations of the River City Swim League Code of Conduct:

  1. Discrimination in violation of Article V, Section I or XIII of the River City Swim League Corporate

  2. Bylaws or any other section of the River City Swim League Rules and Regulations;

  3. Conviction of, imposition of a deferred sentence for, or any plea of guilty or no contest at any time, past or present, or the existence of any pending charges, for any felony, any offense involving use, possession, distribution or intent to distribute illegal drugs or substances, or any crime involving sexual misconduct;

  4. Any sexual contact or advance or other inappropriate sexually oriented behavior or action directed toward an athlete by a coach, official, trainer, or other person who, in the context of swimming, is in a position of authority over that athlete;

  5. The use of illegal drugs in the presence of an athlete, by a coach, official, trainer, or a person who, in the context of swimming, is in a position of authority over that athlete;

  6. The providing of alcohol to an athlete by a coach, official, trainer, manager or any other person where the athlete is under the legal age allowed to consume or purchase alcohol in the state where the alcohol is provided;

  7. The abuse of alcohol in the presence of an athlete under the age of 19, by a coach, official, trainer, or a person who, in the context of swimming, is in a position of authority over that athlete;

  8. Physical abuse of an athlete by any person who, in the context of swimming, is in a position of authority over that athlete.

  9. Any non-consensual physical contact, obscene language or gesture, or other threatening language or conduct directed toward any meet official and which is related to any decision made by such official in connection with a River City Swim League-sanctioned competition;

  10. Any deliberate destruction of, or vandalism to the property of the River City Swim League or its member clubs by any member coach, athlete, or related parties;

  11. Any act of fraud, deception, or dishonesty in connection with any River City Swim League-related activity;

  12. Action, other than through general advertising, by a coach, owner, officer, volunteer, representative, or employee of a swim club, or a River City Swim League representative or employee, either through direct contact with an athlete or the encouragement of others, to recruit or otherwise encourage an athlete who is already a member of a River City Swim League member swim club to compete for or become a member of the swim club with which the acting party is affiliated, unless the acting party receives prior written approval to recruit or encourage the athlete from the coach of the athlete’s existing River City

  13. Swim League-member swim club or contact is initiated by the athlete, the athlete’s parent or authorized representative; and

  14. Any other act, conduct or omission not provided for in 600.3A through 600.3K above, which is detrimental to the image or reputation of the River City Swim League, any of its member clubs, or the sport of swimming.
