Meet our Head Coach
Hello Topspin Swim Team Members,
I am looking forward to meeting all of you. Our first opportunity to meet will be May 13, noon-2:00p at Topspin for a Meet and Greet. At that time, we will have an Arena suit sizing kit so your swimmers may try on a suit and will have goggles for sale. Also, we will have volunteer sign-ups for our home swim meets. Check out the available jobs here. It’s an ideal time to check out the improvements to the facility too!
To give you a better idea of my background and who I am, I am including some basic info about myself. I grew up swimming in Boston before moving to Columbia in 2011 to attend USC. After graduating with a Masters in Secondary Social Studies Education, I began coaching and teaching at Brookland-Cayce as well as coaching for the YCSC Mudcats, and the Northwest YMCA Seals. During my 7 years as coach for the BC Bearcats and the Airport Eagles, I coached a multi-state champion and multiple podium finishers at the SCHSL AAA and AAAA State Championship Meet and was the 2020 AAA-V Region Coach of the Year.
As a club coach, I worked with a multitude of groups, ages, and abilities. My primary focus was with the Junior Group, where I coached multiple Age Group Sectional qualifiers, state champions, and future Y-Nationals qualifiers. Additionally, as the Northwest YMCA Seals Head Summer League Coach, I led the Seals to a runner-up City Meet finish in 2018 before leading the Seals to an undefeated regular season and City Meet Championship in 2019.
Off the pool deck and outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my wife (and wonderful team rep for this summer, Meredith Mowles), my eight-year-old stepdaughter and current TS Swimmer, and my one-year-old daughter. Cooking, reading, fishing, and watching Boston sports teams and the Gamecocks are what I enjoy doing in my free time.
I look forward to meeting you all soon and can’t wait for the start of summer!
