Meet the instructors - 2022 Season

Allison McCombie



Allison is super excited for another season at FPCC! She just finished her senior year at Archbishop Mitty High School, and will be spending her next four at the University of Arizona studying biology! She has been a member of the Tsunami swim team since she was nine, and she has worked as an assistant swim coach, swim instructor, and lifeguard for the past three seasons. She has also been a part of Mitty's swim and water polo teams for three seasons. In her free time, Allison enjoys listening to music and going for drives — feel free to give her your favorite song to add to her playlist! Allison is very excited for her fourth season, and can’t wait to see everyone on deck! Go Tsunamis!

Arwen Hirsch



Arwen is delighted to return for her second year as a swim instructor and third year as a lifeguard this season. She is a junior at SCHS, where she plays trumpet in the marching band, wrestles, and swims. After school, she can be found at a local boba shop doing Duolingo and listening to Broadway musicals. Arwen has loved learning to swim at FPCC for many years and she can’t wait to help all levels of swimmers feel the same way!

Emily Wood



Emily is excited and ready to teach lessons this year! This is her second year teaching lessons and has spent every summer since she was 7 at FPCC. Emily is a senior at Santa Clara High School and will be attending the University of Oregon in the fall! She loves to spend time outside, going on hikes or jumping in the ocean. She also thinks chocolate milk is better than regular milk in every way. Emily has played water polo and swam for her high school team and hopes to continue in college! 

Gabi Soterwood



Gabi is so excited to be teaching lessons again here at FPCC! This will be her second year as a lifeguard and swim instructor. In the fall, Gabi will be a junior at Santa Clara High School, where she is part of the school’s marching band. During her free time, she likes to bake and read. She can’t wait to meet all of the returning and new lessons this summer!

Logan Busch

Logan is super excited to be a lifeguard and swim instructor for his first year at FPCC. In the fall, Logan will be a junior at Abraham Lincoln High School. In his free time, he enjoys playing water polo, swimming, hiking, camping, and fishing! Logan plays water polo and swims for his high school team. He can’t wait to meet everyone!

James Odle

James is super excited to be back for another summer at FPCC. This will be his third year teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding. James just finished his freshman year at Loyola Marymount University, and in the fall will be starting his sophomore year. In his free time, James loves to surf, draw, and play basketball with his friends. In high school, James played water polo, baseball, and competed on the swim team. He can’t wait to meet all the swimmers this summer!

Justin Wood



This is Justin’s 6th year of teaching lessons at Forest Park! He is going into his 3rd year at UCR studying business. Justin is one of our Tsunami swim team coaches and is also a lifeguard at the pool. He has multiple years of swimming and water polo experience. During his free time Justin enjoys being outdoors, surfing, and hanging out at the pool. He has been a part of the Forest Park community for 9 years and loves instructing students of all ages.

Madison Busch



Madison is super excited to be teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding this summer. This will be her first year teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding. She will be a junior this fall at Abraham Lincoln High school. In her free time she loves to swim, golf, camp, and hang out with friends. She plays golf and swims for her high school. Fun Fact: He can hold his breath for over 2 minutes!


Marie Ryan



Marie is excited to return for her second year teaching lessons and third lifeguarding at FPCC! She will be a senior at Archbishop Mitty High School in the fall, and spends most of her time swimming and playing water polo for them. She also enjoys baking and snuggling with her dog, Layla.

Marijka Vernooy

Marijka is thrilled to be teaching lessons this summer at FPCC. This is her second year doing so, in addition to this being her fourth year as a lifeguard. She’ll be starting her freshman year this fall at the University of Queens in Ontario, Canada. In her free time, Marijka likes to hike, longboard, hang out with her cat, and spend time with friends! 

Nora Burkhardt



Nora can’t wait to return to FPCC for her second year as a lifeguard, second year as a swim instructor, and first year as a swim coach. Nora is currently a senior at Wilcox High School, and plans to major in nursing at Gonzaga University in the fall. Nora swam on the Forest Park swim team for ten years, starting around age four. In addition, she swims and plays water polo at her high school on the varsity team, and has played club water polo at SJX in the past. When she is not in the pool, Nora likes to practice playing guitar, spend time with friends, and swim with her dog. Fun fact: Nora is known around FPCC by some to have one of the longest held handstands in the water! She is looking forward to getting to know new people and have a great summer.

Olivia Matarangas


Presley Perez



Olivia is super excited to return to FPCC this summer. This is her 6th summer working at FPCC being a swim instructor and lifeguard! She loves FPCC because of the environment and the joy we get to share with our community. In the fall, she will be a junior at Boise State University studying kinesiology pre-physical therapy. Olivia plays lacrosse at BSU, but when she’s not in class or on the field, she is either skiing on the mountain or floating down the river when there’s warmer weather. Olivia is so excited for this season and can’t wait to meet all the new swimmers!


Presley is so excited to be teaching lessons this year at FPCC! This is her first year teaching lessons and is eager to meet everyone! She will be a sophomore at Santa Clara high school in the  fall. In her free time she loves spending time with her siblings and competing on her swim team! She is on the varsity for her high school swim team and her favorite stroke is butterfly!


Riyana Guerrero



Riyana is thrilled about returning to FPCC for another season as a lifeguard and swim instructor. This coming school year she will be attending her first year at Oregon State University where she will be majoring in mechanical engineering and pursuing a minor in Spanish. In her free time, Riyana loves to do puzzles, go on bike rides, and read books. She’s also a huge sports fan and cheers for the Giants, Sharks, Warriors, and 49ers. She can’t wait to begin the 2022 season!

Tristen Mina



Tristen is very excited for the new swim season and to return for her second year as a swim instructor and lifeguard! This coming school year she will be a senior at The King’s Academy and is also the current captain of the highschool swim team. Tristen has swum on Tsunamis since she was young and has always loved the water. She continued to swim on a competitive year-round team and is very excited to share her extensive swim knowledge with everyone else! She is looking forward to the 2022 season!
