Landa Park Dolphins - Summer 2021

PleaseChange Admin

Hello Landa Park Dolphins!

I am resending the newsletter.  Several of you did not receive the last email and we have added new swimmers.  Additionally, I made some corrections to the last newsletter.  All corrections are bolded.

First I would like to thank everyone for their patience.  We are entering the process a bit late and we encounter new situations daily. I have heard such wonderful things about the Landa Park Dolphins swim team, so much so that I knew I had to step back on the summer league deck to get the 50 years of Bud Dallman traditions rolling again.

To date we have 288 swimmers signed up for tryouts!  The majority of these swimmers are returning dolphins.  We are also in the process of hiring our coaching staff.

The season begins with tryouts starting on the 25th of May and ends on the 6th of August.

Our practice schedule is designed to accommodate the range of swimmers and to maximize our pool time.  This schedule does have the potential to change based on what we learn about the swimmers during tryouts.

We do have a limited number of lanes for evening practice.  Therefore, we will have a limited number of slots for the evening session.  Evening practice is designed to accommodate those families that are unable to make morning practice due to work schedules - please keep this in mind when registering.

Fees for this year are $255.  The fees include:

Registration for the Landa Park Dolphins

Registration for the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation $5

Meet fees (limit three events per meet)  $3 per event

Landa Park Dolphins silicone cap

Not included in our fees are:

Regional meet fees  $7 per event

Additionally, each swimmer must have a season pass for the Landa Park Aquatic Complex (recommend looking into the family season pass for $105).  We are working with Landa Park Aquatic Complex to allow non-resident families to purchase family season passes.

Registration will be online and fees will be paid online.  We plan to open registration on Sat May 29th at 10:00 am.  Registration will be first come first serve.  Each session will be capped to ensure a safe environment for the swimmers.  We will pass more detailed registration instructions this weekend.

Our first meet is an intra squad meet.  This meet will be an opportunity for us to work out the kinks before Bud Dallman Invitational.  We are going to need volunteers for the meets. I am looking for a parent interested in helping to organize a volunteer group.

Finally, let me take a few minutes to introduce myself.  We are a military family.  My husband is retired from the US Army.  Swimming provided us an instant family regardless of where we were stationed.   I have been professionally coaching since 2001.  I was pulled one evening from a master swim practice and was asked if I was interested in coaching a middle school girls age group team with AAAA in San Antonio. My passion grew for coaching in 2004 after joining the Seaside Dolphin Swim Club in Monterey, California.  The Seaside Club head coach talked me into being his Seaside high school JV coach - this is a great story for another time.  In 2006 we moved to Northern Virginia where I coached Novice and Senior teams at Sea Devil swim club and 2 years as the summer league head coach forOld Keene Mills. In 2008 we moved back to San Antonio and I was back at AAAA as Senior coach. 2018 I stepped back from coaching to have more family time. Last year I received a call from an old friend who knew that my passion for coaching was still burning inside of me.  Since then, I have been coaching part-time with Surge Aquatics in New Braunfels. My next chapter begins with The Landa Park Dolphins...

So let's make history...

I am looking forward to working with all of your swimmers and meeting all of you.  I hope to meet as many of you as possible during tryouts.  Until then.
