Swim Team 2022!!!

We are planning for a normal 2022 Swim Season, but this is all subject to change pending county and city COVID safety protocols and requirements.

Swim Team is for swimmers, aged 4-18, who enjoy competing against other recreational swim teams, improving strokes, and making friends.  It is a great environment to gain fitness, strength, and discipline.  While we highly encourage you and your family to be fully committed to practices and meets, your child can be as involved or not involved as you would like.  You select which practices they will attend.  They may swim in all of the meets or none of the meets.  Which meets you participate in is your choice.  Regardless of whether your child swims in meets or not, the volunteer requirement is the same for all parents (see below).  Spring and Summer is considered "one season" so you register and pay once, and it will cover both Spring and Summer practices and all dual meets.

Summer Fitness:  We are not offering Summer Fitness this season.  We are requiring all swimmers to sign up for full swim team, and then you have the option of participating as much or as little as you want (but families must still fulfill all required parent volunteer hours or buy out of your volunteer requirements).

Age requirements:  We welcome children of all swimming levels.  4-18 year olds are encouraged to sign up for the team!   4-6 year old swimmers should be comfortable placing their face in the water and floating on their front and back.  Age is determined by the swimmers age on June 15th.  If a swimmer turns four after June 15, they must wait until next year to register.

Where:  Home meets and practice are held at James Lemos Pool, 181 East J Street, in Benicia.  Away meets are held at various facilities within the local Bay Area. Swim Team members also have the option to participate in Invitational meets with the team.

Registration:  Early Bird Registration opens February 1, 2022 and closes February 28, 2022.  Regular Registration begins March 1st.  Register early to take advantage of Early Bird Pricing (save $50 per swimmer!) and to get first choice of volunteer jobs.  There is a $35 sibling discount after the first swimmer is registered at full price.

Cancellations:  Any registration cancellation prior to the start of the first practice will be refunded in full, minus a $25 processing fee per swimmer.

Cancellations after the first practice, but up to the Monday after Time Trials (Monday, May 23rd), will be refunded at 50% of the registration fee minus a $25 processing fee.

Cancellations after Monday, May 23rd will not be refunded at all.

Any checks returned due to insufficient funds will be charged a $25 fee

City/County/State Mandated Shutdowns:   We do not see this happening, but if there is a sudden turn with the state of COVID (or any other disaster), and we are required to end our season, we will do our best to provide refunds with the following schedule (as a team, we still have fixed expenses that must be met, even if the season is cut short):

  • Season is canceled before the start of the season:  100% refund minus our credit card processing fees
  • Season is canceled after the start of the season but before Time Trials:  75% refund minus credit card pocessing fees
  • Season is canceled after Time Trials but before June 9th:  50% refund minus credit card processing fees
  • Season is canceled after 6/9 but before 7/1:  25% refund minus credit card processing fees
  • Season is canceled after July 1:  No refunds

The above refund schedule is only for mandated shut downs.  They do not apply to individual families who have a change of heart or decide to withdraw their swimmer due to personal illness, beliefs, etc.

Spring Training:  Spring Training will begin for new Stingrays only on Monday, March 21, 2022.  Spring Training for all swimmers will begin on Monday, March 28th, 2022.  Spring Training takes place after school, Monday-Thursday, and the tentative practice schedule is posted on the Season Calendar

Summer Practice: Summer practices take place Monday thru Friday.  The tentative practice times are listed on the Season Calendar.  Technically summer practice starts Monday, June 6th, but please note that Monday, June 6 through Wednesday, June 8 will still have the afternoon Spring Training time schedule.  The morning schedule will begin on Thursday, June 9th (the school Coach Mariska teaches at will not be out for summer until Thursday, June 9th).   Summer practice ends Friday, July 22nd for swimmers participating in the League Championship Meet on July 23rd.  Practice ends one week earlier (July 15th) for those swimmers not signed up to compete at League Championships.  All swim team members are highly encouraged to swim at League Championships meet!!!

Meets:  Meets will occur on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings.  Occasionally there will be a Sunday invitational meet.  See the Season Calendar for the most up to date meet schedule (subject to change).

Please take the time to read the information on the FAQ's on our website.  It will answer a lot of parent questions about Registration, Fees and Meets.

Volunteer Requirements:  Parent Volunteer Requirements can be found under the "Volunteer" Tab on the front page.  We can not function as a swim team without a lot of parent involvement and help.    Invitationals, League, and County Meet have separate volunteer requirements from the regular season requirements.  Please note that you can not sign up for volunteer jobs until your registration has been confirmed and finalized.  This will take 48-72 hours after you have submitted your registration application.  Once you receive the confirmation email, you may then sign up for your volunteer jobs.  The meet job signups are ready to go.  The social job signups will be posted closer to the actual events and you will receive NewsSplashes announcing when the job signups are available.

COVID-19 protocols:  Please see our COVID-19 protocols for a more complete description.  In short, please be responsible and do whatever you can to mitigate spread of the disease.  We ask that you follow the CDC guidelines regarding exposure and quarantines.  The coaches and team can not be responsible for policing individual families.  If you have immunocompromised individuals in your family, or COVID poses a particular risk to your swimmer or family, please consider all of this before registering.
