Erlton’s Learn to Swim Program

Class Descriptions

 

Non-swimmer ( ages 3 and up) 

Prerequisite: The requirements for this class are minimal.  However the participants must be at least 3 years of age, and able to follow verbal commands.

This class will focus on flotation, kick (with boards), breath control, arm movement and swimming independently.

 

 

Swimming Beginner ( ages 4 and up)

Prerequisite: Students must be able to jump in alone and SWIM ½ the width of the3 foot without assistance and be able to support themselves on the wall for extended periods of time. Students should also be able to place their faces under the water for approximately three seconds.

These classes are geared for children who know how to swim independently, but not correctly.  Participants will learn how to kick, float, and swim properly on both their backs and stomachs.

 

 

Advanced Beginner ( ages 4 and up)

Prerequisite: Students must be able to swim one lap with their faces submerged while showing a basic freestyle arm stroke.

The kick, arm movement, breathing pattern, and timing of the freestyle and backstroke will be taught. Treading water will also be introduced

 

 

Swim Team Prep (ages 5 and up)

Prerequisite: Students must be able to swim a lap of bilateral freestyle without difficulty and have a good knowledge of the four competitive swimming strokes.

The mechanics of all four competitive strokes will be reviewed and taught in more detail.

 

 

 

Class Policies

 

1. Please make sure that you place your child in the proper class, as changes in class levels or time may not be possible after registration.

 

2. There are NO INDIVIDUAL MAKE-UPS for missed lessons.

 

3. Entire classes will be rescheduled only if inclement weather forces pool closing.  Make-up lesson will be scheduled for the next possible day.

 

4. Children who engage in disruptive or dangerous behavior will be removed from the program.

 

5. Children are expected to follow directions and listen when instructions are given.

 

6. It is strongly recommended that all swimmers in advanced beginner and swim team prep classes wear goggles.
