Parent Volunteer Service Participation Policy

Upon swimmer(s) registration for Cary Park Sea Dragons, your family is under obligation to complete 12 Volunteer Service points over the course of the summer swim season. These points are monitored to assure our swim team community can together run a successful season for our children. These points do not carry over into following years. Half (6) of the points must be signed up for and earned by the 3rd meet of the season. Failure to fulfill this vital obligation will result in the removal of the entire family's swimmer(s) from the Cary Park Sea Dragons (ability to practice, participate in swim meets or social events, or any other Sea Dragon activities) and jeopardize the following year's eligibility to even return to the swim team at all.

Furthermore, failure to meet this Required 12 Point Volunteer Service commitment which every Family signed agreement to (with your swimmer(s)' registration and with the Parent FAQ paperwork) will result in your swimmer(s)' season awards being held until the commitment is resolved with our VP of Volunteers. No refunds will be given in these situations.

The ONLY Exemptions from  Required Volunteer Service Points are if you have ONLY a Mini Sea Dragon or ONLY a 15+ swimmer.

Any questions, feel free to email the VP of Volunteers.

Summer Swim is an entirely Volunteer-Run activity, with the exception of paid Swim Coaches. It takes our entire "Village" to make Summer Swim so much fun and worthwhile for all our young swimmers.  Families not meeting their 12 Point Volunteer Service Requirement risk their swimmer(s) being suspended or dismissed from the team during the current season, AND run the risk of NOT being allowed to return for swim team the following year, per our team policy. Every Family is REQUIRED to do 12 Points of Volunteer Service.

Parent Volunteer Expectations

  • Each family must complete (earn) 12 points. (Unless you only have a Mini Sea Dragon or a 15 and up Swimmer)  This is to ensure we can run our social events and swim meets safely and smoothly.

  • Families must have earned or committed (signed up for) to their 12 points by the 3rd meet and on their way to completion.  If this is not done, you will get a phone call and your child(ren) can no longer attend practice or compete in the meets or participate in any social events or other Sea Dragon activities until this issue is resolved.  PLEASE do not put your child in this position!
  • Review the job list on the website under the Volunteer tab for explanations of specific jobs we need at the meets, social engagements and other activities.  Different jobs have different amounts of points achievable.  You get to choose how you want to do your Volunteering.
  • Points are not earned simply by signing up. Points are actually EARNED once you have worked the job itself.
  • If you have a question…ask! Email us or stop us at the pool.
  • If you have a special need…ask!  Email us or stop us at the pool.
  • If you cannot complete your job, you must find your replacement and email their name to us. The sign-ups will be closed when they are full. You will not be able to add or remove yourself.
  • There is absolutely no alcohol consumption allowed at swim meets. This is a children’s event and should be treated as so. This is a TSA (Tar Heel Swim Association) rule.  If you are found to have consumed alcohol, you will be asked to leave immediately and you will not receive any volunteer points for that meet.
  • If you choose a position including:  set up, take down, parking, clerk of course, or technology please contact our VP Meets, for instructions and questions. These positions, among others, involves specific additional training.

  • Volunteer Policy
  • Volunteers must check in prior to the meet.  This can be a spouse or neighbor willing to fill your job until you arrive. Check in must be done by 5:30pm or otherwise You have the responsibility to communicate with us directly. If we are not sure you are present to fulfill your job, this job may be given to the next Parent in the Waitlist.  If this happens, you will forfeit your position and lose your points. We are not able to call or text parents to check to see if you are coming to fulfill your volunteer position.
  • Jobs that are given away to another Parent Volunteer - the Points for this job will be earned by that other Parent Volunteer. Credit is NOT given for signing up.
  • Volunteers must remain at their post the entire shift.
  • Each family must earn 12 points Volunteering, regardless of whether you choose to have your swimmers participate in swim meets or not.
  • Volunteers cannot bring small children with them to the meet, with the exception of Dragon Tamers. No other volunteer position can be done effectively while watching a small child.
  • Volunteers are responsible for finding a substitute if they are unable to fulfill their duties.
  • If volunteers do not fulfill their volunteer responsibility or find a substitute for their 12 Points, their children will not be allowed to practice, attend social events, swim in swim meets, or otherwise participate with Sea Dragon activities unless a waiver is granted by the Cary Park Swim Team Board of Directors.
  • If volunteers do not fulfill their volunteer commitment of 12 points in the season, not only may their swimmer(s) be suspended from all team activities (practice, social, swim meets, etc) during that season, but this will jeopardize your family's ability to return in following years to participate with the Sea Dragons as well.
  • Furthermore, failure to meet this Required 12 Point Volunteer commitment which every Family signed agreement to (with your swimmer(s)' registration and with the Parent FAQ paperwork) will result in your swimmer(s)' season awards being held until the commitment is resolved with our VPs Volunteers. No refunds will be given in these situations.
