Tri-County Invitational and Conference Meet Information

The Tri-County Conference has two season-ending meets to accommodate all of our swimmers.

The Conference Meet takes place on the last weekend of July each season. Each team has only 3 entries per event, similar to the final ("points") heat of a dual meet. There are no exhibition swimmers at Conference, Each swimmer is limited to four events - 3 individuals/1 relay or 2 individuals/2 relays.  Coaches determine the line-ups based on times and optimizing the potential number of points scored. Line-ups are announced at the beginning of the Conference week.

The Conference meet itself consists of preliminaries on Saturday for all of individual events. There are NO relays on Saturday. The meet starts at 9am and ends about 4pm with a lunch break. There are warm-ups before both the morning and afternoon sessions. The top 16 swimmers in each event will move onto the Sunday finals.

On Sunday, the day begins with warm-ups and an opening ceremony including all teams in a parade. The meet stars with the medley relay and then runs in the order of a typical dual meet, ending with the free relay. Individual events run 2 heats with those swimmers who placed with the top 16 on Saturday: swimmers seeded 9-16 followed by those seeded 1-8. Final placement is determined by the Sunday race and points scored accordingly. Relays run only on Sunday with final placement determined by the fastest times of all of the heats combined.  An individual swimmer who places 9th – 16th on Saturday cannot achieve higher than 9th place on Sunday.

Following the conclusion of the meet, the points are tallied, there is a meeting of team coaches and presidents, and the results are announced.

For those swimmers who do not qualify to swim individual events at conference (though they may swim in relays,) the Invitational is a meet with all individual events hosted by either Cross Plains, Mt Horeb or Sun Prairie on the Tuesday night before conference. Awards are given for places 1-6. There is no team competition - only on an individual level. It is a great event and lots of fun!

Swimmers will either swim individual events at Conference or at the Invitational - not both.
