Swim Team Scholarship
Most of our swim team families know Doug Stell. If you don’t know Doug, you know Doug’s voice, he’s the meet starter for our division champion Sandston Stingrays. He’s the voice that prepares our kids for their first swim meet of the year, and in many cases, their first meet ever. Doug’s kids have long aged out of the swim team but he has stayed with us. He graciously gives of his time by attending every Sandston meet and JRAC meeting. For his dedication to the swim community and the Sandston Stingrays Swim Team, the board has chosen to recognize him by naming our new scholarship in his honor. As Doug pointed out when he was told about all of this, he’ll be able to help Sandston swimmers long after he can no longer attend meets. There truly is no one more deserving. Thank you Doug for your ongoing commitment to our team!
It is with great pleasure that we announce the Doug Stell Stellar Swimmer Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a senior Stingray swimmer in the amount of $250. All applicants must be high school seniors, have been a member of the team for a minimum of 2 years during high school, and an active member of the Stingrays during their senior year.
This year applicants will be judged on an essay. This year's essay topic is Swimming as an Essential Life Skill. All essays must be typed, double-spaced, font size of 12 inches in Times or similar font, and be at least 750 words but no more than 1500.
