2023 Spring Clinic Weekly Details:

Gator’s Spring Clinic will run for six weeks (March 6-April 22) and will emphasize the development of techniques necessary in swimming. While each group will swim different yardage, the goal remains the same among every group: develop a better understanding of the sport and the techniques that are necessary to succeed while having fun. Younger, newer swimmers will focus on freestyle and backstroke while older athletes will focus and develop all four strokes. Swimmers will learn how to be efficient in their swimming which will directly translate into their success in the summer season. For both new and returning swimmers, the clinic is a great way for athletes to advance their swimming knowledge and technique!

The Blue group will already have a general understanding of how to legally swim all strokes. The goal of the clinic for these swimmers is to incorporate drills that will help strengthen certain elements of each individual stroke. For example, freestyle drills will isolate and focus on hand placement which will translate to improved efficiency when swimming regularly. By focusing on technique with each stroke, swimmers in the blue group will learn to swim as effectively as possible. The last two weeks include a focus on building good habits in the individual medley as well as dives. The last two weeks will provide the blue group with an increased understanding of individual race strategies as well as developing good habits related to racing. The Blue group is a great fit for older swimmers who are confident in their strokes.

The White group will follow a structure similar to the blue group with the main difference between the groups being a focus refining the two harder strokes: breastroke and butterfly. Swimmers in this group are expected to be able to swim both freestyle and backstroke legally, but do not need to be able to legally swim breastroke and butterfly. The extra time spent on these strokes will allow swimmers to compete in the individual medley legallady. Our last week will focus on the individual medley. Drills in this group will help to refine all parts of the harder strokes which many swimmers struggle with. The White group is a great fit for athletes who need a little more help on perfecting both butterfly and breastroke.

The Silver group will focus on developing younger swimmers in all four strokes. The swimmers in the Silver group need to be able to swim Freestyle and Backstroke, but do not have to be proficient in breaststroke and butterfly. The early focus centers around freestyle and backstroke. The swimmers will learn new terms that will aid them in understanding the mechanics of the strokes. When the strokes are revisited later in the clinic, swimmers will have the ability to recall vocabulary that was ingrained earlier in the clinic. This will help connect the dots when furthering developing the strokes. The same will be done for breaststroke and butterfly. The Silver group is a great fit for younger swimmers who can comfortably swim freestyle and backstroke, but may need more help with butterfly and breastroke.

Week 4

The Green group will provide our newest swimmers with an experience that will develop their confidence and skills in the water. Swimmers in this group will be new to the sport, but will need to meet the minimum safety requirement of being able to swim across the pool unassisted. The very basics of swimming will be covered throughout this clinic, and there will be a heavy emphasis on how to swim both Freestyle and Backstroke effectively. The terms used throughout the clinic will provide an easy to learn experience for the swimmers. The goal of this clinic is to develop a strong understanding of the basics of swimming which will stick with the swimmers throughout their swimming careers. The Green group is for athletes who can complete a lap unassisted, but need work on developing their stroke efficiency.
