Registration for Swim Team is open to members of ClubSport San Ramon and non-members, (pending space availability), who meet the following conditions:

  • Must be between 5-18 years old.
  • Must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle.  Swimmers must swim freestyle continuously exhibiting proficient side-breathing patterns for 25 yards.  A swimmer must be able to swim the entire distance without ever touching the bottom or side of the pool.
  • Must swim 25 yards of backstroke. Swimmers must swim backstroke continuously exhibiting proficient kick and body position on top of the water.  A proficient body position is defined as a swimmer who can stay on his/her back for one length of the pool while maintaining a continuous kicking motion on the surface.
  • Attendance.  Swimmers are expected to attend at least 80% of all practices.

All swimmers must be water safe and be able to swim independently, as well as able to take directions and listen in a large group.  Swimmers who do not meet the above criteria, may be referred to lessons or to participate in our Mini-Marlins program, in order to prepare them for the swim team.

The practice groups are structured to be developmental in the younger groups and more competitive in the older groups.  Please realize that group assignments are made by the Head Coach and are arranged so every swimmer is in the best environment for them to learn.

Coaches develop their group workouts based on skill proficiency and endurance.  Swimmers will be taught drills to improve strokes and will work on increasing endurance throughout the season.  Since swimming is an individual sport, each child will perform differently, but you can be sure that your child will get out of it as much as he or she puts into it.

Our practice schedules change seasonally, but for the most part practices are held throughout the year .The most updated practice schedule can always be found on our team website and at Club Sport.

As a team, we will attend approximately one meet per month during the Fall Season and 8 to 10 meets in the Summer Season.  Not all swimmers will attend all these meets. Swim meets are FUN and they play a large role in teaching swimmers team spirit, camaraderie, and results from all their hard work in practice.

Our team meet schedule is posted on the Marlins website, posted at ClubSport and available at the Activities Desk.  In the Fall season, more meets are posted on the Pacific Swimming website, and you can choose to swim in additional meets, but you will be attending as an individual swimmer and not as a team. Coaches will typically not attend additional meets.

Most meets will be held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings in the Summer. Fall meets are held on Saturdays and Sundays, with some distance races being swum on Friday evenings. Meet locations and travel distances vary. Swim meets are approximately 3-8 hours, including warm-up.
