History

The Carthage Aquatic Team was formed in the fall of 1987. A group of parents from two previous swim teams in Carthage met to form one swim team. The Broadview Country Club Swim Team, known as the "Piranhas", and the Carthage Municipal Swim Team, know as the "Tiger Sharks", both swam competitively until the above mentioned date. A seven-member board was formed near the end of the 1987 swim season to work with the renovation of the Carthage Municipal Pool to become a competitive pool and to organize the two above-mentioned swim teams into one team to represent the youth of the city of Carthage. The team competes in local and Missouri Valley area competitions, sanctioned by Tri-State Swimming.

Parent Club

The Carthage Aquatic Team Parent Club was formed in 1987 with the purpose of providing support to the team, specifically; hosting meets, recruiting new team swimmers, and planning social activities. Each time a youngster joins the team his/her parents automatically become members of the Parents Club, and inherit with that membership the responsibility to participate and support the activities of that club. Parental involvement and volunteering is vital to our programs continued success. Please ask a board member the many ways you can help out our organization.

Club Executive Committee (Board)

The Team Board consists of a President, Vice-President, a Secretary, Treasurer, and two At-Large Delegates, each of whom must be a member of the club, and be elected at large by members of the club. The term of office for elected Board Members shall be elected for two years, with three positions expiring in even years and three expiring in odd years. The term of office shall commence immediately after the January annual meeting.

Philosophy

The Carthage Aquatic Team program is characterized philosophically by the principals of self-image psychology - guiding and directing individuals toward maximum development of their talents and abilities. Similarly, The Carthage Aquatic Team coaching staff endeavors to teach, train, and motivate young people to achieve their ultimate potential in swimming in the belief that this experience will prove valuable to them as they grow and develop. The Carthage Aquatic Team program strives to instill in young swimmers an understanding and appreciation of such concepts as high self-esteem, personal accountability, constructive self-motivation, goal setting, and goal achievement as these ideas relate to their success in training and in competition. It is our belief that the process of achieving is as significant as realizing the achievement itself.

At each age group level of competition, swimmers are instructed to strive for excellence. Excellence in this sense represents the achievement of that level at which you know that you have done your utmost to become the best you are capable of becoming. This philosophy is consistent throughout the Carthage Aquatic Team program, and every swim team member is encouraged to:  "BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE!"
