WHAT IS MANTAS?
The Mantas Swim Team was formed to bring together HWI swimmers who train at different venues, so that they can compete under the same club name in overseas competitions, and in the Mantas own annual Invitational age group competition.
It is open to all swimmers who train year round in HWI coached squads, and is supported by a parent run committee.
Mantas has a separate joining and annual fee – the accounts are kept separately from HWI and help to fund; i) our annual Invitational meet, ii) sponsorship for coaches and entry fees of overseas meets, iii) various social events, iv) contributions to charity.
Mantas is very much a ‘family’ which encourages participation of parents, and social interaction of swimmers. Mantas values all its swimmers whatever their current ability or level may be!
The subscription fees (paid to Mantas Swimming Club) for are:
HK$600 per swimmer (paid on joining –pair of Mantas shorts and a T-shirt provided on joining)
+ Annual membership fee – HK$400 per family - renewed in Jan of each year.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
January; the Mantas AGM will be held and a new committee of parents is voted in. This committee is vital to the running of the club, and parents are invited to join, and /or to support the clubs activities.
MAY / JUNE (tbc) ; the Mantas swimming club will host an INVITATIONAL SWIM MEET, to which teams from clubs across Asia are invited. This Home Meet is a 2- day meet with events in all strokes for each age group starting with 8yrs and under. It has no qualifying times, and is designed to give young swimmers the experience of competing in all strokes as part of a team, in an international competition. It will be held at the HK Sports Institute with the full support of the HKASA.
In autumn Mantas swimmers will have the opportunity to travel to at least one AWAY MEET, usually to Bangkok in December. Additional away trips may include meets with qualifying times.
The SWIMATHON is the main fund- raising event of the year; date is usually between Jan – March, at West Island School. All families and swimmers are expected to support this event. The funds raised allow Mantas to fulfill its mission to aid charity and to help fund the Home meet.
The MANTAS ANNUAL AWARDS were started in 2009 with the following aim; “ to provide recognition to those swimmers who may not be the most outstanding (i.e. winners of high point trophies), but those who continually show dedication and commitment to improving their swimming ability, and exhibit a strong belonging to the Club and its events.” Up to 12 swimmers are awarded each year.
The main considerations by the coaches in choosing the recipients are; Commitment to the club, by taking part in the Swimathon, Home Meets and Away Meets, and commitment to the sport, reflected in their attitude and effort in training, and improvements in competition. Usually combined with a fun ‘Splash In’ event.
