HOW TO JOIN THE LISBON BULLSHARKS SWIM TEAM

Thank you for your interest in the Lisbon Bullsharks Swim Team!

Being a member of our team means team involvement from both swimmers and their parents. Please consider the following team expectations before applying:

Swimmer Meet Participation. As a Bullsharks swimmer, you are expected to compete in at least 2 competitive swim meet weekends (or a total of 4 meet days) during the Fall/Winter Competitive Season. There is ample opportunity to compete and volunteer during our competitive (Fall/Winter) Season: We host 2 home meet weekends in Lisbon. We also travel as a team to 2 EFSL meet weekend events in Rota, Spain. Additionally, swimmers and their families are welcome to travel to other EFSL meets and Divisional Championships during the season. To qualify to compete in the Long Distance and Individual Championship meets (locations vary within Europe), swimmers must meet or exceed current EFSL Qualification Times.

Parent Volunteer Participation. As a Bullsharks parent, you are expected to volunteer at the meets you attend. As a fully volunteer-run team, we also expect involvement outside of meets and the competitive season, such as in a committee, events, fundraising, board member, etc. Please review our Volunteer Page and consider how you will help at meets and outside of meets.

Step 1: Apply

If the above expectations are agreeable, and your swimmer meets falls under one of the categories listed on our Who Can Apply page, the first step to joining our team is to complete our application.

CLICK HERE TO ACCESS OUR APPLICATION

After we receive your application, we will contact you to set up your swimmer's tryout date and time.

Step 2: Set Up Your Tryout

Tryouts are usually held in late August/early September, and again in late Feb/early March. After we receive your application, we will contact you to set up the next available tryout date and time.

Tryouts are swim assessments by our Coaches at Piscina Municipal de Cascais Abóboda. Map: https://goo.gl/maps/gaCYT88gBNM2

For tryouts, swimmers should bring a swimsuit, swim cap, 1-2 towels, plus goggles and flipflops if desired.

Parents please note: Street shoes are not allowed on the pool deck; flipflops only.

Step 3: Two-Week Trial

If the coach approves your swimmer after tryout, a 2-week trial starts. This 2-week trial allows your swimmer to practice with the team as much as desired and allows everyone to determine whether we are all a good fit.

During this time, the board also reviews our current team and practice group rosters to determine the number of NATO, non-NATO, international, and national swimmers allowable. Please note that due to high demand and pool capacity, we may not have enough slots available for all qualified swimmers.

To start your 2-week trial, please transfer 30 euros per swimmer to cover the pool's insurance cost to: Lisbon Bullsharks Association, NIB 0018 0003 4525 3861 0204 1, IBAN  PT50 0018 0003 45253861020 41, BIC TOTAPTPL.

Once you have completed this bank transfer, please email both lisbonbullsharks@gmail.com and bullsharkstreasurer@gmail.com with total amount paid, swimmer name, and parent's name on account so we can track your payment and inform the pool personnel that your swimmer(s) will be attending our practices for two weeks.

Your swimmer may attend as many practices as desired in his or her swimming level (bronze or silver) for the next two weeks.

Step 4: Medical Clearance Form

During your two-week trial, your swimmer's Medical Clearance Form must be completed, signed by the swimmer's doctor, and submitted to the team as soon as possible. You may scan and email your form to lisbonbullsharks@gmail.com, or upload your form to your TeamUnify Swimmer Account if you have been provided a member login.

Step 5: Join the Bullsharks

Upon mutual decision to join our team, please transfer the season fees to Lisbon Bullsharks Association, NIB 0018 0003 4525 3861 0204 1, IBAN  PT50 0018 0003 45253861020 41, BIC TOTAPTPL. Fees may be paid annually in September of 500 EU/NATO family swimmer; 700 EU per non-NATO swimmer per year; or fees may be paid in two installments in September and March of 250 EU/NATO family swimmer; 350 EU per non-NATO swimmer. Fees are subject to change by board approval. There is no prorate or sibling discount, however, parents with multiple children may pay for one child per month if needed. Parents may pay an annual 30 eu insurance fee to use the pool for lap swimming during practices only (sauna/Turkish bath not included).

Once you have completed your bank transfer, please email both lisbonbullsharks@gmail.com and bullsharkstreasurer@gmail.com with amount paid, swimmer name, and parent's name on account so we can track your payment and add your swimmer(s) to the pool admission roster. We will also add your email contact information to our mailing list and provide you with your website login credentials for Bullsharks-only access and meet registration capabilities.

Once your swimmer is on the pool's admission roster (shortly after your season fee payment), go to the Reception desk on the pool level and ask for your swimmer's pool access identification card to be created. This will allow your swimmer to swipe his or her card at entry to access the pool.

Welcome to the Lisbon Bullsharks!
