Benoit Beaufils
Junior Coach

I was born in France and started artistic swimming at age 6. After becoming French Champion in 1995, I moved to the USA to swim for the Santa Clara Aquamaids where I was coached by Chris Carver and Stephan Miermont. In 1998, after a third place finish at the US Nationals, I was contacted by Cirque du Soleil to join the creation of “O”. During the 7 years I was part of that show, I got to share the stage with some of my idols, most of which were Olympians. I also got to diversify my dance and acrobatic training and become an aerial acrobat. In 2005, I joined the creation of “Le Rêve-The Dream”. I stayed there for almost 15 years and my performing skills improved tremendously. I also got to be part of many unique experiences including a lot of TV appearances on shows like “Dancing with the Stars”, “America’s Got Talent”, “The Ellen Show”, “The Latin Grammys”, “The Tonight Show” and a few others. I was also lucky enough to be part of some major motion pictures including “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2”, “Sync or Swim” and the upcoming “Avatar sequels” on which I performed underwater stunts and motion capture.

In 2015, when FINA changed their rules and allowed mixed duets at the World Championship for the first time, I was asked to represent France with Virginie Dedieu, 3 time World Champion and my personal, all-time favorite artistic swimmer and was coached by the National Team coach, Julie Fabre. The knowledge and experience I acquired during that year was invaluable.

I am extremely excited to be able to coach the Desert Mermaids Junior team this year and to pass on some of my knowledge. My coaching philosophy is to be kind, trusting but firm and demanding and to push my swimmers further than they think they can go. I know just how much hard work goes into being successful in artistic swimming and I hope to bring out the best out of each of swimmers.

My expectations are for my athletes to be punctual, attentive, respectful to me and to each other and to always put their best foot forward. The list of equipment I expect them to have at training is: pull boy, paddle, kick board, fins, weights and rubber bands. I highly recommend them never to come to practice on an empty stomach and should always have a snack in their bag just in case they need it.

Kaitlin Naomi Staines
13-15 Coach

Born and raised in Sacramento, California
16 years of experience on the national level
Articulate, graceful, diligent, dedicated, perfectionist.

I’m a former synchronized swimmer who is self-driven to succeed in and out of the pool. I have a strong history of competing for high-performance club teams including the Walnut Creek Aquanauts, the Santa Clara Aquamaids, Sac Synchro, and was a member of the 2012 US Jr National Team. I'm committed, driven, and hardworking with an internal drive to deliver excellence, owning a solid foundation in the technical aspect of artistic swimming. I've worked with coaches from all around the world; those of which include Hungary, France, Russia, Japan, China, Great Britain, Korea, and the United States of America. There’s two main things I love about synchronized swimming: 1. Is the freedom of artistic expression, using your body in quintessential timing with the perfect piece of music to engage an audience. 2. The day in and day out strive for perfection.
