Thunder Water Polo Youth Program

North Texas Water Polo Leagues:  The North Texas Water Polo Leagues are competed each season of the year with various age groups and divisions (a little different each season).  For the League Game Days, the different practice locations throughout the DFW area compete - Southlake, Flower Mound, and Denton.

Age Groups: Thunder age groups follow the USA Water Polo age divisions.  There are various competitive levels and programs.

  • 9th-12th Grade Athletes, 18U and 16U Age Groups
  • 8th/6th Grade & Younger, 14U, 12U, and 10U Age Groups

For the Fall, Winter, and Spring Seasons (the school year), age groups are based on an athlete’s year in school (Example:  8th Grade & Younger).  For the Summer Season, age groups are determined by their age (18U, 16U, 14U, 12U, 10U).  An athlete’s age each summer is determined by their age on August 1st.  For example an athlete who turns 17 on June 29th, their age for the entire summer season will be 17 and that athletes would be placed in the 18U Age Group.

Practice Locations:  There will be practice opportunities for all age groups/genders.  Athletes should choose which Thunder Water Polo practice location is best for their schedule - Southlake, Flower Mound and Denton.

Practice Frequency: Generally, 1-2 training sessions each week per age group are available at each our locations. With your club seasonal dues, athletes are entitled to train at any and all of the practice locations.

Additionally, there will be opportunities for common training for all the athletes.  Common training is an opportunity for players from all practice locations, to train together within their own gender and age groups. These trainings are some of the most important to attend, as you will be with all of the players from your age group in addition to your head coach for each age group. These trainings are held periodically each season.

Game Days:  Thunder Water Polo athletes will play, practice, and compete throughout the summer in an atmosphere that promotes self-esteem, physical fitness, teamwork and respect for others. As part of the seasonal dues, athletes will compete in three separate game days.  Game Days do not take place during the week but on three separate weekends.  Athletes will be assigned to a team based on their practice location and will compete with that team against the teams from the other locations.
