RENO News - 2/24/21

Ryan Evans

Good Morning,

I hope everyone is having a great week. Please read through today’s email for important Reno Aquatic Club news.

Congratulations to Coach Benny

Coach Benny and her University of Nevada teammates competed at the Mountain West Championships in Las Vegas. Benny had a great meet highlighted by her 1st place finish in the 400 IM.

Benny continued the RENO dominance in the Mountain West 400 IM. Former RENO swimmer, McKenna Meyer, won the 400 IM the previous four years (2017-2020). McKenna swam for San Diego State. Prior to McKenna, Yawen Yi won the 400 IM three years in a row (2014-2016). Yawen swam for Nevada and spent a few months training with RENO before joining the Wolf Pack. Way to keep the streak going, Benny!

RENO alum, Donna dePolo, also had some great swims for the Wolf Pack including winning the 200 breaststroke. Brendon Bray, the head coach of Nevada, is also a former RENO swimmer.

The Wolf Pack came up just short of winning the team title. The entire meet came down to the 400 freestyle relay, and Nevada was out touched by UNLV by just .1 of a second. Despite a heartbreaking finish to the the meet, I am confident Nevada will be bounce back even stronger. Way to go, Wolf Pack!
