 Winter Program

The RSTA Winter Swim program offers swimmers the opportunity to continue their swim development during the colder months (September through May). The program is hosted at the Reston Community Center. Coaches work with swimmers to improve their stroke technique and endurance. The program is broken into three sessions: Fall (September - December), Winter (January - March), and Spring (March - May).

New Wave sessions will run at the same times as the Winter Swim session options listed below but will be held in the shallow instructional pool. Contact [email protected] for more information or assistance in determining your swimmer's readiness for this program. Policies for Fall 2022 session participants:

This is not a learn-to-swim program. Swimmers registering for a Winter Swim session should be able to swim the length of the pool, unassisted for the full duration of the hour long practice; this program is ideal for swimmers who have previously participated in summer swim team or equivalent lessons. Swimmers registering for New Wave are expected to have basic swimming skills; this program will focus on improving technique while building endurance and confidence to ready swimmers for summer swim team.

Please note the following:

  • If you are sick, stay home.
  • Arrive 5 minutes early to sign in, and plan to leave the deck and the facility immediately after practice. Reston Masters Swim Team follows directly after us, and we need to clear the pool deck for their practice.
  • Parents are not allowed on deck due to the limited seating area.
  • Pool equipment will be available; please do not bring any.
  • Lanes will be arranged by ability and not by age.
