OUR Squads

Mini Squads Pathway

The emphasis of our mini squad programme is on further skill development. Learn-to-Swim promotes recognisable strokes and the mini-squad programme seeks to make them legal in a competitive sense.

Mini Squads - Simba Squad

The Simba Squad is a transitional step, swimmers already registered in the Learn-to-Swim programme at Level 5 are invited to complete an additional session with the club programme. They will become accustomed to 'swimming terms of reference' and will be taught from the pool deck rather than the water.

Mini Squads - Leo Squad

The Leo Squad is the stepping stone from Learn-to-Swim lessons into our club programme. Swimmers at this level are now involved solely in the club programme and swimming twice or more per week. Continuing with teaching the competitive strokes and turns, swimmers will become familiar training in a larger group format and should begin competing in the internal School Championship meets.

Mini Squads - Aslan Squad

Swimmers in the Aslan squad are now completing all four strokes legally before they begin competing outside of the internal school competitions. They will fruther sharpen their skills focusing on drills and kicking skills. Appropriate starts and turns will be emphasized. Attending 3 or more sessions a week will see a greater rate of improvement at this level. Swimmers will compete at SSPA (Singapore Swimming Proficiency Awards) and internal School Championship Meets

Development Pathway

The Development Pathway allows swimmers to develop at different rates, keeping them involved in the programme until they are ready to make further commitment. By retaining their participation they will find it easy to change their mind and make the leap across to the performance pathway. Many swimmers also find they are satisfied with the level of training they are able to complete at this level.

Junior Development

At this level swimmers have now embarked upon a training programme that demands more consistency and regular attendance to meet the physical demands. Swimmers are expected to commit to 4 or more sessions per week as a minimum. Skills are valued highly and continue to be built upon acquired from previous squads. Training load is considered where practice times become longer and are combined with more continuous swimming. Swimmers will be expected to understand interval training and will learn how to train at different effort levels and speeds. There will also be a greater emphasis on race strategies. Swimmers in this group are focussing on gaining team selection for Junior ACSIS & Junior SEASAC. Individually, they are focussing on qualifying for Singapore National Age Groups.

Age Development

Age Development provides opportunity for swimmers to swim without the pressure of a minimum attendance requirement. Opportunity is still available for swimmers to progress. Swimmers at this level may simply have aged up from our younger Mini-Squads and remain an important part of the programme. There will be continuing emphasis on training as supposed to purely technique based training.

Youth Development

Youth Development builds upon Age Development often training with this group. Drill work and increased volume in formalised sets will continue to make up a large portion of the practices; At this level, goal setting will be introduced and swimmers will be expected to be accountable for their swimming commitment and progression. Consistent practice attendance is necessary for continued improvement and advancement to the High Performance Team. Swimmers in both Age & Youth Development are still eligible for selection for school teams such as Middle School ACSIS & High School ACSIS. Further information on selectionc criteria can be found here. They may also enter Singapore National Championships.
