Ava Otteson Drops Time In Every Race At Red Cliffs Swim Meet In Utah

PALM SPRINGS, CA – May 10, 2021 – Ava Otteson scored 42 points and dropped massive amounts of time achieving her personal best time in every event.  She reached the finals in five out of seven events in the preliminary/finals format at the Red Cliffs Swim Classic held on the Dixie State University campus in St. George, Utah on April 30 - May 2, 2021.

Ava, age 13, showed tremendous stamina and spirit against a highly competitive field of Senior girls ranging from ages 13-18.  By reaching the finals in five events and just missing in the other two, Ava’s full promise was on display.  Attached below is a list of her impressive time drops for each swim.

Coach Laura Otteson, Ava’s mother, commented, “This was an important milestone in Ava’s competitive swimming career.  We made the six-hour drive to Utah to compete at an amazing college facility, against a very tough field of senior girls, most were older than Ava. She swam insanely fast races!  By reaching the finals in so many events, Ava proved to herself and everyone else that she can compete with the fastest swimmers in the Western United States.”

Ava added, “I have been working hard in team practices and it’s paying off.  Now that we’re able to practice longer hours (since Covid restrictions are beginning to lift) I feel ready to compete.  I’m excited to see how our team performs during this summer’s long course meets.”  Ava will lead more members of the ELITE Otters Swim Team to Goodyear, AZ this weekend for the YWSF 2021 Long Course Summer Opener.

Head Coach Josh Otteson says he can feel the excitement building within the team as summer approaches, “Covid restrictions feel like they are lifting and this will be a super summer for our team.  We’ve had tremendous interest from our community about joining the Otters program.  Additionally, we feel the competitive juices flowing as we prepare for the meet in Arizona.  We anticipate the return of Southern California Swimming events later this summer.”
