Myrtle Beach Riptides Face Blistering Heat
As the temperature in the south increased, so did the racing from the Myrtle Beach Riptides swim team.  The Riptides competed in two meets the week of June 18-22.

2015 Cuttino Invitational –
Nearly a dozen members of the Riptides travelled to Savannah, GA for the 2015 SST Cuttino Invitational.  The Cuttino Invite served as a preliminary/finals formatted meet for swimmers 13 and over and a timed-finals formatted meet for swimmers 12/Under.

Hurley Cribb led all Riptides with 11 personal best times, three new SC State Championship qualifying times (q-times) and two Riptides’ records.  Cribb scored new q-times in the 50- and 100 meter freestyle events and 400 m Individual Medley (IM).  Cribb set new records in the 13-14 100 m butterfly and 200 m breaststroke.

Peyton McWhorter achieved 8 personal best times, 6 team records and 3 new SC q-times.  McWhorter set records in the 50-, 100- and 200 meter backstroke events; 50- and 100 meter backstroke events; and 50 meter freestyle.  McWhorter achieved new SC q-times in the 50 meter freestyle, and 200 meter butterfly and backstroke events.

Danielle Flaherty also achieved 8 personal best times and 4 new SC q-times in the 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter butterfly and 200 meter butterfly and backstroke events.

Dan Henington swam many events for the first time in long-course meters, yet that did not deter him from swimming to 8 SC q-times and 3 team records.  Henington added q-times in the 50-, 100- and 200 meter backstroke events; 50- and 200 meter butterfly and freestyle events; and 50 meter freestyle.  Henington set records in the 50 meter freestyle and butterfly and 100 meter backstroke.

Jake Flaherty swam to 5 personal best times and his first team record in the 200 meter breaststroke.

Ian Morgan achieved 7 personal best times and a new SC q-time in the 200- and 400 meter freestyle events.

Kailey Habib, Ethan Nechemia, Maddi Pannell and Chase Teasley each swam to multiple personal best times over the weekend.

City of Myrtle Beach Summer Swim League meet #1 –
The City of Myrtle Beach Summer Swim League officially kicked off with the first meet of the season June 18 at the “Pepper” Geddings Rec Center.  Although the times achieved in the SSL are not official, racing in the SSL is just as competitive.

Twenty-five members of the Riptides competed in SSL meet #1, garnering 17 event wins and nearly 40 “unofficial” personal best times.

Event winners included Olivia Bailey, Jake Flaherty, Ella Habib, Kailey Habib, Prerna Hablani, Dan Henington, Ian Morgan, Ethan Nechemia, Maddi Pannell and Yianni Paraschos.

“Unofficial” best times were achieved by Jack Guthinger, Dave Hablani, Matthew Key, Kylie McWhorter, Brady Morris, Seth Riley and Ireland Rose.  Several new Riptides who competed in their first meet were Sadie Averitt, Josh Boezi, Mason Kinmartin, Madera Palmer and Michael Quiroga-Diaz Betts.  Joe Guthinger and Chloe Stampfle rounded out the squad.
