Grand Prix 2

Riptides Racing at Grand Prix 2:
Several members of the Riptides Racing Team travelled to Mount Pleasant for the second meet of the 12/Under Grand Prix Series.  By meets end, Riptides Racing Team achieved 80% personal best times, 14 Top-6 finishes and added two more SC Swimming State Championship qualifying times.

Ella Speir led Riptides with five personal best times and new SC q-times in the 50-yard butterfly and 200-freestyle.  These are Speir’s first SC q-times.

Ella Habib, Jake Flaherty, Jack Guthinger, Madera Palmer, Marissa Patricio and Seth Riley each were perfect in achieving best times.   Joe Guthinger, Brady Morris, Kyle Owens and Ireland Rose each achieved multiple best times.

“Every swimmer who attended the meet achieved best times,” said head coach James Smith.  “For the swimmers to achieve so many best times especially coming off of the ‘IM’ for Breast Cancer Awareness meet just a couple weeks ago, it was a great achievement,” Smith continued.

With just two Grand Prix meets and one invitational meet in the books, Riptides Racing Team has qualified 14 swimmers to the 2016 SC Swimming short-course State Championships, which nears the team record of 16 qualified swimmers.

Next for Riptides Racing Team is the New Wave Quad meet in Raleigh, NC the weekend of November 14-15.
