Making Waves at Quad meet

Riptides Racing Team at Waves Quad Meet:
The Riptides Racing Team traveled to Raleigh, NC for the 3rd Annual Waves Quad meet.  Twenty members of the locally-based swim team competed at the meet which took place at the Orange County Sportsplex.  For Riptides Racing, nearly 100 personal best times were achieved, including 12 new SC Swimming State Championship qualifying times, four Age-group Sectional Championship q-times, 4 team records and another newly qualified swimmer to the SC State Champs.

Said head coach James Smith, “It was a tough meet for our swimmers.  Between the combinations of several meets for our younger swimmers, intense training for the older swimmers and the format of the meet – racing 5 events each day in just over 2.5 hours – can really stress the swimmers.

“All in all, the Riptides’ staff was very pleased with the results,” Smith continued.

Riptides had team leaders in several areas of the meet –

  • Eddie Bateson led with 8 individual event wins;
  • Harrison Clinton led with 8 new SC State Champ q-times, 4 new Age-group Sectional q-times and 3 team records;
  • Yianni Paraschos led with a perfect 10-for-10 personal best times;
  • Ella Habib joined the 2016 SC State Champ team with a q-time in the 50 butterfly;
  • Peyton McWhorter and Ian Morgan each added two more State Champ q-times to their repertoire (and a team record for Morgan); and
  • Jake Flaherty led with the single largest improvement of more than 70 seconds in 500 yard freestyle.

Keyon Berenji, Connor Churchill, Hurley Cribb, Danielle Flaherty, Kailey Habib, Hannah McDonough, Kylie McWhorter, Ethan Nechemia, Christian Patricio, Ireland Rose and Ella Speir each achieved multiple best times at the meet.  Chad Bateson and Andi Churchill were right on their times.
