Community Outreach

Here at South Carolina Swim Club, we are responsible for more than just our swimmers. Our entire community can be made better or worse by our actions, so we work intentionally for the good of those around us. You can read below about some of the ways we have reached out - and continue to reach out - to our community.

Low Country Aquatic Program

A win, win, win for all! This is a great relationship between nonprofit organizations to assist a population of children who have little to no access to swimming lessons and allow them to participate in an organized lesson program. SCSC contributes a monthly stipend to the LAPS program and in exchange, North Charleston Recreation Department provides lane space for SCSC at the Danny Jones pool. As a program, we encourage participation in the LAPS annual fundraiser, the Low Country Splash, a 2.4 or 5-mile swim along the Mt. Pleasant shoreline.

Lowcountry Food Bank

We are proud to announce the completion of our 3rd Annual Spooky Food Drive. With the help of all our wonderful swim families, we were able to collect 680 pounds of food. According to the Lowcountry Food Bank, 1 pound of food equals 1.2 meals. Therefore, SCSC provided 816 meals to underprivileged families this holiday season!! All of the donations are sorted and packed by type, and then distributed to 300 partner agencies throughout the coastal counties depending on their needs.

Toys for Tots

SCSC was proud to work with Toys for Tots in a team-wide Toy-Drive, led by our Bronze Division swimmers. Our youngest swimmers are in the Bronze Division, and this drive taught them to be thankful for what they have, and to be compassionate to those who have less than they do. SCSC collected 409 toys throughout the drive!

Meals on Wheels

SCSC's Silver Division (10 & under) swimmers were excited to decorate Holiday placemats for Meals on Wheels of Charleston. This organization aims to enhance the lives of older adults in the community by packaging and delivering meals to house-bound senior citizens in the Charleston area. By coming together and decorating holiday placemats with encouraging words and illustrations, our Silver swimmers helped enrich the lives of Charleston senior citizens. We hope that these placemats will be used for many months to come and that the people who received them are filled with joy by the artwork our swimmers helped create.

When SCSC pools (pun absolutely intended) our time and talents, we can have a big impact on the communities in which we live. Each year, the different practice groups identify an organization to assist in them in their mission to give back to the community. A big THANK YOU to our group’s team parent volunteers who provide a huge amount of support to make these projects happen, and we are so grateful for their enthusiastic support.

Stay tuned for updates about ongoing projects!
