Summer Long Course

Training Philosophy

Our swim year goes from September 1st through August 31st each year.  Within that 12 month swim year, there are two competitive swim seasons.  Short Course Season is officially September 1st – March 31st, where all competition is done in a 25 yard pool.  This first competition season basically takes place during the school year.  The second competitive season within our swim year is Long Course Season.  This is known as our “summer” season.  Officially, long course runs April 1st through the end of August.  All competition and training during this time period is known is done in a 50 meter Olympic size pool.

We always time off around Spring Break.  Other than that we spend the months of April and May reviewing everything we learned during the short course season.  During June & July, those become  our training months.

Our overall focus for our summer long course season is always the same: WORK AS HARD AS POSSIBBLE AND GET IN THE BEST SHAPE OF YOUR LIFE.  Because long course training is physically harder to do, it can help get you in the best shape of your life.  At Palmetto Aquatics, we place great emphasis on our summer long course training.  That is our number one priority.  If you focus on that, and are goal driven during your summer training, two things will happen:

1.    Your results for your swim meets during the summer will be there.

2.    Just as importantly, it will build a training base that you can draw from for the upcoming short course season.  It will give a solid base to springboard into short course training and swimming.  That can be so vital.

We love swimming during the summer.  Kids are out of school.  The ability to focus can be more concentrated.  All swimmers are expected to be at their morning and afternoon practices.  If you are in town, you are to be at your assigned practices!
