Become a Swimming Official
South Carolina Swimming (SCS) is a Local Swim Committee (LSC) operating under the direction of USA Swimming. SCS-LSC welcomes all interested individuals to consider becoming a USA Swimming official.
SCS-LSC establishes and maintains requirements for certification in South Carolina, and details and regular updates are available on their website.
There are many ways to serve as a meet official, ranging from lane timer (minimum age of 11 years and mandatory pre-meet briefing) to administrative official (e.g., clerk of course, scoring personnel), stroke and turn judge, starter and meet referee. Except for a lane timer, all positions require completion of:
- LSC Non-Athlete Officials Membership Application
- Level 2 Background Check
- USA Swimming Athlete Protection Training
- South Carolina Swimming Stroke and Turn Clinic, or Administrative Official Clinic (no cost)
- Stroke and Turn or Administrative Official Apprenticeship
