E-mail Blast #4 - Sunday, September 13

Thank you everyone for attending the first ever Las Vegas Open Water Invite! Your athletes did a remarkable job racing and following our Safety Procedures. Another shout out is more than necessary for our officials and lifeguards for running a smooth, safe event.

Result files are attached. Please note, particularly in both 2.5K races, the times are not accurate. Order of finish was triple verified in all races, but we had some technical difficulties with the timing using our new app system. I apologize for the hiccup. Files and updates are also posted on the Event Page.

We hope you can join us in October for the  West Coast Open Water Championships. More information can be on the  Event Landing Page. We plan for Online Meet Entry to open this week!
Thanks again for coming out, it was a pleasure hosting you all.

E-mail Blast #3 - Friday, September 11
Coaches and athletes,
Lake Las Vegas will be open for practice time today from 4-6pm. We ask that we try to keep the number of athletes on the course at one time under 50. Be prepared to be flexible.
Additionally, there will not be lifeguards present for the practice session. Swimmers are strongly encouraged to wear swim buoys if you're out there today. We plan to have kayaks and paddle boards available for coaches to be on the water to monitor your athletes.
Reminder: The Mandatory Technical Meeting is tonight at 7:00pm PST. We plan to post the recording on the Event Page following the conclusion of the meeting.
Meeting ID: 846 3876 9248

Looking forward to a great Event!

E-mail Blast #2 - Tuesday, September 8
Welcome to the inaugural Las Vegas Open Water Invitational!
This email includes important information for you and your athletes, please read through it thoroughly. Keep in mind this is the first Open Water race held in this area of Lake Las Vegas. There will be some changes as we set up and go through the races Saturday. The latest information will be emailed and posted to the Event Page on the team website. This site will be updated regularly.
  • Schedule of events for Friday & Saturday (subject to change)
  • Final entry list for each race (with competitor numbers listed)
  • Maps of directions to the course, race course, and the infrastructure set up
  • Updated Meet Form
Technical Meetings
All athletes and coaches are required to attend the technical meetings on Friday, September 11 via Zoom. Meeting times and Zoom codes are included in the Race Day Schedule attachment. Recordings will also be posted to the Event Page.
Race Schedule Change
Due to the number of entries and our course location change, we opted to separate the Men's and Women's 5K races entirely vs running them 5 minutes apart. This pushed the 2.5K and 1.25K races later in the day. The attached Race Day Schedule is current with these changes.
Check-in Procedure
The athlete check-in procedure will be outlined during the technical meetings on Friday. Check-in will take place inside the building and will feed athletes out to the athlete area where they will keep their bags, be able to hang out, and enter the race course. Check-in will have two stations (split into several sub-stations to avoid lines):
  1. Positive check-in, temperature check, waiver collection (visiting teams), money collection (visiting teams), and receive athlete number card
  2. Nail check, suit check, numbering (with markers), and receive a disposable mask
  3. Free to go to athlete area and use warm up course
    • Athletes are encouraged to bring a chair for their belongings and somewhere to sit in the shaded athlete area
  4. Coaches will have a separate check-in to check deck pass and collect waivers
Entry Fees
If your team is NOT sending a check ahead of time, please bring your payment to race day. Checks made payable to Sandpipers of Nevada.
Spectators & Social Distancing
It is imperative that everyone in attendance wears masks and spreads out as much as possible. Lake Las Vegas & the City of Henderson mandated we have 1 spectator/athlete in each race to minimize the number of people at the course at one time. Please respect these rules!
There are two areas that are designated for spectators, both are labeled on the map. I recommend bringing chairs or tents to set up in those areas. Bathrooms will be located outside the fence on the east side of the parking lot. Spectators will NOT be allowed inside the fence into the athlete area. Again, please stay 6ft apart from other families in these areas.
Nail Check
We will have nail clippers available for athletes to use, but we encourage all participants to cut their nails before the race day.
Final results from each race will more than likely not be official before check-in opens for the next race. Athletes and spectators are to clear out of the race course as soon as their race is over. Results will be posted to the Event Page and Meet Mobile (search: Las Vegas Open Water Invite).
Warm up and Course Availability
The race course will be available from 4-6pm Friday evening. We ask that no more than 50 people be in the water at one time, please work together on this.
The water north of the athlete area will be open for warm up during check-in and up until the pre-racing briefing (15 minutes before race start time).
We are excited to host you all Saturday! Please contact me with any questions.

E-mail Blast #1 - Saturday, August 29
Good Afternoon Coaches and LSC Chairs,
The  Las Vegas Open Water Invitational is officially sanctioned and will be competed in just two weeks from today! I apologize for the last minute information, I hope your families and clubs are able to participate.
I have attached the Race Information Packet, Event Entry file, hotel info, and Lake Las Vegas Water Sports ad.  All of this information, and more, is available on the Event Landing Page on the Sandpiper Team Website. We will be using that page to upload parking maps, race information, timelines, results, etc, so please direct your families to this page.
**Note: the hotel discount rate expires Wednesday, September 2!
A few important items (please read thoroughly):
  • We are limited to no more than 50 athletes in a race, per local restrictions. Entries will be accepted first come, first serve beginning Monday, August 31 at 12:00pm PST. All entries received will be notified of their status for the race. THIS WILL FILL UP FAST! If we are not full, the entry deadline is Saturday, September 5 at 11:59pm PST.
  • Time recon will be conducted on the entered athletes times. The meet entry file will not work for an eligibility report in TeamUnify. I apologize for the extra step on your end.
  • Once entries are finalized, we will publish official race day schedules with check-in times, meetings, and race start times.
  • Specific procedures about check-in, warm up, the actual races will be published next week.
  • All coaches and athletes must have a COVID Waiver on file to be turned in at check-in. We encourage you all to sign ahead of time, but we will have blank copies at race check-in.
  • Please have your families read the Safety Sections of the meet form. Families must plan to be in & out for their races only so we can cycle the next group into the venue with minimal overlap. Lake Las Vegas mandated families have 1 spectator/swimmer at each race. Please abide by these rules, it is for the safety of everyone in attendance. Thank you in advance!
  • Location change: Due to conflicts on the lake with the public, we moved the race course to the Northeast end of the Lake. The new area will be a great location for both swimmers and spectators, and it keeps us isolated from the public. It does require a drive from the Hilton hotel, including a stretch on unfinished roads. We will post directional signs to get to the venue throughout the Lake Las Vegas community and publish formal directions ahead of the race. Parking is free in this area.
  • Paul Szuszkiewicz ([email protected]) will be our Meet Ref. Please contact him with any questions about officiating or the meet itself.
  • The Lake Las Vegas Water Park will be open all weekend. We highly encourage your families to take advantage of the coupon we included. It is a super fun area for the entire family.
The Sandpipers and Lake Las Vegas are very excited to host you all. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Coach Michael Kinross
