USA Swimming announced Monday the 200 clubs that will be recognized as Gold, Silver or Bronze medal clubs in the program, which “recognizes the organization’s highest-performing clubs in the development of athletes ages 18 years and younger on an annual basis. Socal was awarded Silver. This is the third consecutive year Socal has been awarded Silver. There are over 4,000 clubs in USA Swimming. USA Swimming has announced the 1,239 members of its 2021 Scholastic All-American Team, consisting of 587 girls and 652 boys. To be considered for this year’s team, swimmers had to have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 for the 2020-21 school year and swum a 2019 Winter Junior qualifying time in any individual event between September 1, 2020 and August 31, 2021. Socal: Six Socal records were broken in the last two meets of the summer. Gillian Ascari (10) shattered a twenty-five-year-old team record going 5:51.68 in the 500 free and Joey Kling (17) broke a thirty-six-year-old record going 58.59 in the 200 Back. Tona Zinn (17) broke a record in every race he swam at the 2021 Futures meet. 100 fly (55.60), 100 breaststroke (1:03.59), 200 Fly (2:02.44), 200 IM (2:04.33). and his favorite race the 400 IM (4:30.72). SOCAL: The Socal JO team led by Coach Frisk, Ben, and Pristine completed four days of competition on Sunday finishing in fifth place just 12.5 points shy of fourth. The Mission Viejo JO's was by far the most competitive of the three JO's with over 1,000 swimmers compared to less than 500 at the two other JO's.
