About the group

San Clemente Aquatics Mini-Triton Level 2 Group is an introduction to swimming for youth interested in developing endurance and technique to advance to our Bronze Group. In a small group setting, young swimmers are taught the fundamentals of stroke development through drills and technique that set the stage for proper swimming biomechanics.

Swimmers in this program will focus on side and bi-lateral breathing on freestyle, proper kicking technique on freestyle and backstroke and introduction of the dolphin and breatstroke kicks.   

Try-outs is required to join this program. Try-outs are by appointment only!

Registrations
Once your child has completed a tryout and is approved to join the team, you can register your swimmer  on our website: SCA Member Registration.

 

 

Expectations / Required skills  Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards demonstrating proficiency in both freestyle (with side breathing) and backstroke.  All must be unassisted and continual.  Swimmers must be at least 5 years old.

 

Attendance and Participation  Swimmers are encouraged to attend both practices offered each week.  Swim meets are not required, but encouraged when swimmer is ready.

 

Service Hours  There are no service hours assigned to this group.  However, should your swimmer participate in swim meets, you will be required to fulfill a timing assignment per our Timing Protocol.  

Monthly Dues and Start Up 

$95/month dues + $68 Southern California Swimming Annual Registration + $100 SCA Team Registration Fee + $40 Annual Swimmer Fee.  First month including start-up fee's will be $303 and then $95 thereafter.

Attire

  • Boys:  jammers or briefs, goggles.  Cap optional
  • Girls:  1-piece competition suit, googles, cap (required).  Hair must be completely inside cap
  • Board shorts, trunks, rash guards not permitted.

MTL2 #6:  TTH 4:30-5:00 pm

We have worked hard to create a schedule with as many options as possible. Groups and times may not be mixed. Please don’t ask for exceptions. In order to maintain practice quality, swimmers must attend at the time for which they are registered.  We do not have make-ups for missed practices.  (Space is limited and not all groups have space available).

 
 
 
 

 

Criteria to Move from Mini Tritons to Bronze Group

☐ Swimmer must be at least 6-years-old.

☐ Swimmer must be able to follow coach directive 90% of time during workouts.

☐ Swimmer must be on time for workouts 90% of time.

☐ Swimmer must understand Breaststroke and be able to swim 25 yards with a legal kick.

☐ Swimmer must be able to swim 25 yards of continuous Backstroke demonstrating a legal stroke and finishing on their back.

☐ Swimmer must be able to swim 4-25 yard(s) of Freestyle on the 1:00 interval.

☐ Swimmer must be USA Swimming dive certified.

☐ Swimmer must understand the concept of streamline and be able to demonstrate streamline during practice 100% of the time.

☐ Swimmer must understand the concept of "take your mark, go."

The coaching staff will make all group level assignments. Training ability, performance, maturity, commitment of both the athlete and the parents, and social group will all be taken into account when making this determination. Be assured that the coaching staff considers every athlete very carefully. 

 

Even if the athlete makes all the standards for consideration, the athlete may not be moved into the next practice group. Conversely, the coaches may invite an athlete that has not made all the standards to be placed into a higher group. This could be for a variety of reasons including but not limited to physical, mental, or psychological maturity, commitment of the athletes and parents, social group etc. Ultimately it is the sole discretion of the coaching staff where to place an athlete. If you have a question as to why your athlete was placed in a certain group please ask the coach and we will certainly discuss it with you.
