Without Further Ado...Exciting News!

Kymberly Sabins
Dear Parents and Athletes,

We are delighted and honored to introduce to you our new Head Coach:  Jason York!  His candidacy is the total package and he brings tremendous skills to San Clemente Aquatics.  So many things impressed us about Jason, but one thing that stood out was his focus on proper technique and stroke development for the  youngest swimmers all the way through to our  seniors.  He understands the progression of swim skills and is committed to developing consistency and fun at ALL age groups.  This foundation allows his oldest swimmers to enjoy so much success under his coaching.   His first day on the job will be Monday, October 5th.  We know he is very excited to meet all of you and plans to announce times for families to introduce themselves to him in an "open house" format.  Stay tuned for more details...

A little more about our illustrious new coach!  He comes to us from the Buenaventura Swim Club in Ventura, CA where he has had a very impressive run catapulting his team to enormous success.  Prior to his tenure at Buenaventura he coached with the Santa Clara Swim Club, bringing us 21 years of coaching experience.  He is a former highly competitive swimmer himself, competing for Santa Clara Swim Club as an age group and high school swimmer.  He went on to compete for UCSB as a student-athlete, and was an Olympic Trials qualifier in 1992 in the distance freestyle.  He and his wife Kristin have two boys, Stone (6) and Sylas (4).  As previously mentioned, Jason impressed the Hiring Committee from the beginning with his holistic athlete approach.  In his words, he has an "athlete first" mentality and " I will always teach and coach with love."

Here are just a few of Coach York's accomplishments from the last 5 years:
  • Many swimmers ranked in the All Time 100 Age Group Rankings
  • Consistently scored points at Winter and Summer Junior Nationals
  • Achieved Silver and Bronze Medal Status in USA Swimming Club's Excellence Program 4 of the last 5 years
  • Has swimmers ranked in the World 100 Program
  • Produced a Summer Junior National Championship & numerous Championship Finalists
  • Guided a swimmer to the National Junior Team
  • Guided seven different swimmers to the Olympic Trials Time Standard
  • Guided masters club to multiple top 10 team finishes at Masters Spring Nationals
  • Has coached multiple All-Star Festivals and Western Zone All Star meets
  • Served as coach at Western Zone Select Camps
  • Always has multiple swimmers earning the Scholastic All America Honor
  • Endless energy, enthusiasm, and passion about the sport
"I do not believe great swims happen by accident.  I believe the progression of a swimmer to a world class athlete can be a planned event.  I believe with proper guidance, a young athlete who has guts, determination, and a tough mentality makes his or her own reality.  My program will offer each of my swimmers the opportunity to create their own reality and realize their potential."   - Jason York

We cannot wait to WELCOME Coach York and his family to San Clemente Aquatics in just a few short weeks!  Thank you to our wonderful team (parents and swimmers) for your patience and commitment throughout this time.  There have been so many changes this year; we are so delighted to find a fabulous coach who will bring consistency, fun and fast swims for many years to come.  The future is bright!

Sincerely,

San Clemente Aquatics Hiring Committee
