Age: 6-10

Purpose: Fun, legal stroke technique, intro to team philosophies, learning conditioning to be able to complete multiple 25s in a row

Practice Attendance: up to 3 practices a week (min. 2/3)

Mini Meet: one mock-meet at the end of each session to prepare swimmers and parents on understanding how competitive team meets will operate when they make the move to the competitive side of the program

Description: Pre-Comp is geared towards bridging the gap between swim lessons and competitive swimming. Our Pre-Comp classes are NOT Learn-To-Swim classes.These swimmers are able to legally complete a 25 Freestyle, 25 Backstroke, 25 Breaststroke, and 25 Butterfly. They should also be able to complete a forward somersault in the water.

Equipment: water bottle, kick board, proper swim suit, red practice cap, goggles, towel, (on the 1st day of practice bring either your birth certificate or passport)

Pre-Comp Leaders

     Coach Hana
Coach Hana found her passion for the water when she entered high school. She attended West Torrance high school and played water polo and competed for the swim team all four years of her high school career. She led as captain of the water polo team her senior year. She attended El Camino college and participated for two years on the water polo and swim teams. She was captain of her water polo team for a season and was the two time captain of her swim team. As swim team captain in her second season she led the women's team to their first conference title in over 13 years. She also qualified as an All American Swimmer for the 4x200 freestyle relay. 

As a coach, Hana is motivated everyday by the Swim Torrance swimmers to keep learning and improving herself as a coach. She is currently in her fourth year as a coach having spent the first year coaching novice to Junior Olympic level athletes for PV Water Polo Club.

She is the head coach of the men's and women's swim team at a local high school, West Torrance High, for the 2017 & 2018 season. She is currently also an Open Water Lifeguard at Cabrillo Beach for the City of Los Angeles and this will be her 5th summer working with the city. 

Coach Hana is excited to be a part of the Swim Torrance team and is excited to help all swimmers meet their goals and to fall in love with the sport.

     Coach Sophie
Coach Sophie has been swimming since she was 5-years-old with South Bay Swim Team, Beach Cities and Swim Torrance.  During her swim career of countless meets, she achieved her goal of multiple WAG and JO cuts. From there Sophie begin training to compete at Senior Sectionals.

Continuing her swim journey with West High, she earned 1st place in the 100 backstroke during League Finals among all the Torrance schools, secured her place on the CIF team, and received the Coaches Award during her Freshman year.

Sophie is passionate about swimming and believes the sport physically and mentally builds oneself up. Her favorite thing about coaching is seeing kids improve, reach their goals, and succeed. Having swum on Swim Torrance for 4 years and coaching with the team for her second season, Sophie knows what it means to carry the Torch. Besides swimming and coaching, she enjoys filming, traveling, singing and hanging out with her friends!
