Pre-requisite criteria to join the pre-competitive team: Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted. Unassisted is defined as completing 25 yards without touching the lane rope, wall, bottom of the pool, or any equipment (kickboard, fins, etc). Swimming 25 yards does not need to be a formal stroke.

With the exception of religious reasons, swimmers on the pre-competitive team are not allowed to wear shirts in the water. Girls should wear a one piece swim suit and boys should wear jammers or briefs. Drag caused by swim trunks or shirts slows proper technique development.
