Daniel Mascolo Director of Competitive Swimming
Primary Focus: National Group, Oversight of entire YSSC Program
ASCA Level 4 Coach
The 2022-23 season marks Coach Dan’s fifth year as YSSC Head Coach. During his time as YSSC Head Coach YSSC has seen record growth and tremendous success in all facets of the program. Over that time YSSC has returned to national prominence, with YSSC winning the past 3 South Carolina Short Course Senior State Championships and the past 2 South Carolina Swimming Short Course Age Group State Championships. USA Swimming has recognized YSSC as a Silver Medal Club since 2020 and the Cukes are ranked in the Top 50 nationally of the Virtual Club Championships.
Coach Dan was named the 2020 South Carolina Coach of the Year, 2019 Short Course YMCA National Coach of the Meet, has twice been recognized as the Connecticut Age Group Coach of the Year, coached over 100 swimmers YMCA National Top 10 performances and multiple YMCA National Champions and record holders. He is an ASCA Level 4 coach.
Prior to joining the YSSC Coaching Staff, Coach Dan was the Associate Head Coach of the Cheshire Y/Sea Dog Swim Club from 2005-2018, along with being the Head Coach for the CT State Champion Cheshire High School Girls’ Team from 2012-2017. Coach Dan has provided leadership to YMCA National Championship and Connecticut High School State Championship winning teams with CHS winning the 2017 State Championship and Cheshire YMCA Women winning the 2017 Long Course and 2018 Short Course YMCA National Championships.
In addition to focusing on the overall development of the Y-Spartaquatics program, Coach Dan gives back to the swimming community having sat on the Boards of Directors for New England Swimming, Connecticut Swimming and most recently South Carolina Swimming, having just finished his term as Administrative Vice-Chair. At the most recent YMCA National Championships, he was elected to the Executive Committee of the YMCA Coaches Association.
Coach Dan lives in Moore, SC with his wife Cynthia and daughters, Mikaela (16) and Mackenzie (12).
Ed Cullen Head Senior Coach
Primary Focus: Senior 1, Junior Sectional and oversight of Junior & Senior Groups
ASCA Level 3 Coach
Ed Cullen originally hails from Wilton, Connecticut, but he and his wife have been living in the Charlotte area since 2016. He is entering his 15th year of coaching and has coached for Ridgefield Aquatic Club, the Greenwich YMCA, YMCA of the NorthShore, Crimson Aquatics, SwimMAC Carolina and YMCA of Upper Palmetto.  He is an ASCA certified Level 3 coach and working on his Level 4. Ed has served on Junior National Select Camp coaching staffs.  
Along with being around pools he also has a passion for open water swimming. As a young adult, he swam multiple events on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.  He has coached multiple Open Water National qualifiers as well.  
Coach Ed has worked with a variety of ages and ability levels throughout his career including current Olympian Kieran Smith as an age group swimmer. He hopes to instill his athletes a respect for hard work and discipline in the water.  He sums up his philosophy as a quote from Vince Lombardi that says, “Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”  You will often hear Coach Ed saying “Honor your teammates and yourself with your effort.”  
Two fun facts about Coach Ed is that he also met his spouse at the Y in Massachusetts.  Coach Ed has also a outside niche for Professional Wrestling.
Wendy Viney Head Developmental Coach
Primary Focus: Green & Red, oversight of YSL programs
Wendy will be coaching the Green & Red groups. Wendy grew up in Greer where she developed a love for swimming, dancing, and cheering.  She swam for Rusty Brook Swim Team before graduating from Clemson University in Secondary Education(Mathematics).  Throughout the summers of college and her teaching position (Berea High School), Wendy worked at Foxcoft Pool in several capacities to include, lifeguard, manager, and swim team coach.  Finally, after nine summers, Wendy and husband, Jeff, moved to Florida and started a family.  Now, they are in Greer and have three kids, Gardner Anne is a senior and is a National group CUKE, and both Copeland and Cam are currently at Clemson University.  Wendy had coached YSL for several seasons as well leading the Age Group Dryland for 3 seasons. She worked with all of the color groups in the Cuke dryland program.  Wendy is thrilled to have joined the coaching team at the Y and looks forward to a great season with Green and Red!
Kyle Bradley Head Age Group Coach
Primary Focus: Blue, Yellow and Oversight of Color Groups
ASCA Level 2 Coach
Coach Kyle was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but has been a resident of Greenville since 2001. He grew up swimming for Foxcroft in the Greenville SAIL league for 14 years where he discovered his passion for the sport. He coached at the same club for ten seasons from 2013 to 2022. During his time as coach Foxcroft won 2 Metcalf Cups, 9 Founders Cups and set 63 out of 80 team records. Kyle is a graduate of Shannon Forest Christian School in Greenville (Class of '14) and from Gardner-Webb University (Class of 18') with a B.S. in Sport Management. 
During his time at Gardner-Webb, he was an undergraduate assistant for the schools NCAA Division-1 swim program under then Head Coach Mike Simpson and Associate Head Coach Josh Stanfield for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. The Runnin' Bulldog men placed 2nd and 3rd in those seasons while the women placed 3rd both times at the CCSA Conference Championships. Additionally, he was the president of the Honors Student Association (HSA) in 2018 and the Vice President of the HSA in 2017.
Coach Kyle joined the Y-Spartaquatics Coaching Staff in September 2018. In the last four years at YSSC, Coach Kyle has worked in some capacity with almost every group on the team. He began in 2018 with a primary focus as lead coach for Orange and as an assistant for the Junior 1 and YSL Groups. In 2019 Coach Kyle took over Junior 2 and oversaw the group grow from 20 athletes to almost 60 by the end of 2020. Coach Kyle also took over primary responsibility for the YSL program in 2019 all the way through 2021. During this time the program saw immense growth and success particularly at the 8 & Under state meet. 
Most recently, in 2021 the immense growth of the Junior program saw the need to create a third junior group to accommodate our 13-14 athletes. Coach Kyle oversaw both Junior 1 and 2 during the 2021 season which yielded 4 sectional qualifiers and nearly two dozen state qualifiers.
In his spare time Kyle loves to play Disc golf all around the Greenville/Spartanburg area as well as participate in activities such as fantasy football leagues and online games with his Honors College hallmates from North Carolina. A fun fact about Coach Kyle is that he was on a competitive gaming team in college, where they won in the first round of the unofficial NCAA tournament against Mississippi State!
Heather Martin Office Manager, Age Group Coach
Primary Focus: Office Manager, Team Administrator
Heather is originally from Maryland, attended Clemson University and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  She has been a part of the team since her daughters joined in YSL.  Rebecca is currently attending Denison University.  Caroline is a senior in HS and helps with swim lessons and assists Coach Wendy.  They live in Moore and are proud to be a part of both the YSSC and YMCA family.
Cassie Bergman Lead Group Coach
Primary Focus: Orange Group
Keegan Neale Lead Group Coach
Primary Focus:  Senior 2
Coach Keegan swam at YSSC for 10 years competing at the State, Sectional and YMCA National level. He went on to swim in college, initially at the University of North Dakota but UND cut the program he transferred to Old Dominion University. Coach Keegan has coached SAIL for 4 years working with the Neely Farms and Riverwalk teams.
Tyler Clem Lead Group Coach
Primary Focus: Junior 1

Coach Tyler is originally from Charlotte, NC. He began swimming around age 9 at SwimMAC Carolina in their Junior Swim League program as well as swimming summer league at the local YMCA. After a couple years, he decided this was the sport for him and joined the club team at SwimMAC, where he remained until high school graduation. Coach Tyler set off to the University of Alabama (‘18) where he earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. After college, he moved to South Carolina to begin his career, where he works on electro-pneumatic brake systems for passenger trains. Today, Coach Tyler has expanded his swim training into full triathlon training. He races in the Advanced/Open category at the local races here in South Carolina. He loves riding his bike and swimming, especially open water swimming, and he runs when he must. Coach Tyler is excited to begin coaching at the Y and is elated to be a part of all the team’s future accomplishments!

Grant Pawlak Lead Group Coach

Primary Focus: Junior 2

Coach Grant joins the YSSC Coaching Staff following a successful summer as an assistant coach at Holly Tree Country Club’s SAIL team. He started swimming competitively when he was 10 years old for a summer swim team in Mason, Ohio and continued swimming year-round after moving to Tampa, Florida for T-BAY Aquatics. He swam for his high school swim team, and as a summer camp counselor/assistant swim instructor for SEAL swim school in Lutz, Florida over the summer in high school. Grant graduated from the University of Tampa with a bachelors in writing. This will be Coach Grant's first year working with the YSSC coaching staff and he is excited to meet the swimmers and families. He is looking forward to contributing to an amazing season.

Lindsay Wilson Group Coach
Originally from Valencia, California, Coach Lindsay spent 9 years swimming for the Canyons Aquatics Club and 1 year for the Santa Barbara Swim Club. Lindsay enjoyed early success as an age grouper, qualifying for Junior Nationals at age 12 and competing in the 1992 Olympic Trials at age 15.  Stanford University and coach Richard Quick welcomed Lindsay to collegiate swimming in 1994. During her four years at Stanford, Lindsay became a 7 time All-American and 3 time NCAA champion. Lindsay was the Captain of the Stanford team that won the NCAA Championships her senior year. A Stanford Scholar-Athlete, Lindsay graduated in 1998 with a BA in Human Biology.  Lindsay made her final USA Swimming appearance at the 2000 Olympic Trials before retiring from competition.

Lindsay began her coaching career at Stanford University, working with women’s team from 2000-2002. In 2002, Coach Lindsay became the assistant coach for the Dartmouth Women’s Swimming team where she coached for two seasons. In 2004, coach Lindsay began working with the “elite” level at the Coppell Family YMCA.  Lindsay joined the YSSC coaching staff in 2012 as is ecstatic to contribute wherever and whenever she can!

Coach Lindsay is married to Geoffrey Wilson and has four children, Lucas (14), Camrynn (13), Charley (9), Parker (6), and three crazy labrador retrievers. Coach Lindsay still loves to swim.
