The Bridge Between Swim Lessons and Swim Team...
Swim Squad is a perfect way for young and new swimmers to get their feet wet in the sport of competitive swimming. We break the year into 4 seasons and focus on specific pieces of swimmer development in each of the different seasons. Swimmers commit to only one season at a time and may choose to swim as many seasons throughout the year as they wish. Our seasons range from 7-15 weeks and are for swimmers ages 7-14* who want to be part of a fun year-round activity where they will learn, be challenged, have fun, and be an active part of a team. We look at it as the bridge between our learn-to-swim lessons and swimming year-round on a competitive team.
Which Squad will I be placed in? Once your swimmer has been evaluated by a ZAP coach and is cleared for registration, swimmers will be placed into a Squad group baced upon age and/or ability.
Squad programming has been changed to better serve the swimmers. There are now 4 distinct Squad classes - mini Squad swimmers must be 5-6 years old; Squad 1 swimmers must be at least 7-8 years old; Squad 2 swimmers must be at least 9-11; Squad 3 swimmers must be at least 12 and older. While these are age reccomened groups, swimmers will be placed based upon ability as well.
For more advanced swimmers, we reccomend Swim Conditioning. Practices are 90 minutes in length. Swimmers must be 9-11 years old to join Swim Conditioning 1 and must be able to swim the 100 freestyle in a minute fifty (1:50 or faster); 12 and older to join Swim Conditioning 2 and must be able to swim the 100 freestyle in a minute thirty (1:30) or faster.
