About San Diego Canoe Kayak Team

Teamwork on the water and offSan Diego Canoe Kayak Team was founded in 1997 by Chris Barlow, Olympic Sprint Kayaker (Barcelona, 1992), fueled by both a love of paddlesports and a desire to share the aquatic and outdoor environments with San Diego area youth. Chris was soon joined by Olympic Sprint Canoeist, Coach Joseph, (Atlanta, 1996). Both Coach Chris and Coach Joseph wanted to share their skills and discipline to develop a new generation of Olympic level athletes. The team is located at the Youth Aquatic Center on Fiesta Island in beautiful Mission Bay Park in San Diego, California.

San Diego Canoe Kayak Team primarily teaches and trains youth aged (8-16), but our program also embraces college age athletes and masters paddlers and we currently have members from ages 8 to 80. Our racing teams compete at both National and International competitions. Our experienced coaches are trained and certified by the International Canoe Federation (ICF) and prepare our young athletes to succeed at World Championships and Olympic competitions. All SDCKT coaches are trained in paddle sports including canoe, kayak, surf ski, and stand up paddle (SUP.) Many of our coaches are fierce competitors themselves with much success at both National and International competitions.

San Diego Canoe Kayak Team fosters value-based competition in a fun and inclusive environment embracing personal training discipline as well as teammate respect and cooperation. SDCKT offers a safe enriching competitive environment that encourages a lifelong relationship with paddle sports. Our membership includes an extensive fleet including canoe, kayak, surf and spec ski, SUP, Olympic canoe and Olympic kayak along with C2, K2 and C4 and K4. We also have a well-equipped on-site gym for strength development and cross training. We encourage you to sign up and experience the thrill and joys of paddle water sports.
