Coach Kent is the head coach for the Pierre Swim Team. He coaches mostly middle school and high school ages.  He is starting his 12th year coaching for the Pierre Swim Team.   He also coached the Pierre Swim Team in the mid 1980’s when he was in college and again in 1990 – 1991.  His full time job is coaching.  He has three children and one grandson.  His coaching experience is coaching with the Pierre Swim Team.  He also has coached the University of Texas and SDSU swim camps.  Coach Kent’s favorite swim stroke is the breaststroke.  Kent likes competitive swimming because of the individual nature, the personal motivation and commitment it takes and because most anyone can do it with personal success.  Advice that he would give any age group swimmer would be to have fun, expect a lot of ups and downs, work hard and try to do one thing better every practice.  His most memorable coaching experience is winning the short course state meet.  He likes many motivational quotes but his favorite would be “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are right” – Henry Ford.  His favorite professional swimmer is Katie Ledecky because she is an amazing athlete, is incredibly humble, friendly and gave up millions of dollars because she wanted to swim in college.  One interesting fact that people might not know is that Kent played the trumpet for 8 years and was the mayor of Riggs High School his senior year.  His other interests and hobbies are watching football, kayaking and working on home improvement projects.
