Madeline Johnson Head Coach

I grew up in Rapid City and am a former Rapid City Racer. I swam with the racers through high school and continued to swim at the University of Northern Colorado. I transferred back home and graduated from Black Hills State with a degree in Applied Health Science. I also spent some time working as a treatment counselor at the Black Hills Children’s Home. I have a passion for the water and have always loved being involved with aquatics. I began lifeguarding and swim instructing with the city in 2011. I am currently working part time as a lifeguard/ swim instructor. I am the sister of Miles and Marie Johnson who are also swimmers on the racers. When I am not at the pool, I enjoy hiking, cooking, lifting weights, and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy spending time with my two pets Manny and Smokey. Swimming has taught me valuable life skills and was such a fun experience for me as a kid. I hope to create the same environment for our swimmers. I am excited for the opportunity to work with your kids and help them achieve their swimming goals!

Katie Baskerville Assistant Coach

I was born and raised in Aberdeen, SD and swam for the Aberdeen Swim Club. Although I had no intention of swimming in college, the pool always calls me back. I swam for Northern State University (team captain with a scholarship) and helped coach ASC for 4 years before graduating and moving to Rapid City in early 2010 to work at Wellspring as a behavior specialist. In 2011-2012 I coached the Racers at Ellsworth Airforce Base for a small group of military families, while also completing my graduate degree and working full-time. I was Assistant Coach for the Racers from 2013-2016. I am a full-time School Counselor at Canyon Lake Elementary, where I have been for 7 years. I have a Master’s degree in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I also work part-time at Pennington County Jail, where I do drug and alcohol assessments, working to get inmates into counseling and treatment programs. I am currently serving as President for the West River Counseling Association, and on the statewide South Dakota Counseling Association board.

Jaelyn Lardy Assistant Coach

My name is JaeLyn Lardy, and I am originally from West Fargo, North Dakota. Growing up I swam for both my school’s team and the club team in West Fargo. My favorite events to swim were the 200 free and the 500 free. After high school, I continued my education at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND and I graduated with a degree in Spanish Education and Spanish. I currently teach high school Spanish at Douglas High School in Box Elder. When I am not teaching or coaching, I enjoy being outside biking or hiking, I also enjoy reading and I love to bake. Swimming was and continues to be a huge part in my life and I cannot wait to share my love of the sport with the kids!
