Dan Rozick Head Coach

Dan comes to Birmingham Swim League after spending over five years at Nitro Swimming in Austin, TX. As the Head Coach at Nitro-Cedar Park he served a team community with over 1,000 members and 800 families. He worked with all groups on the team from the developmental level all the way up to professional and collegiate swimmers. Most notably he was in charge of multiple groups at the Senior level in his time at Nitro, finishing his last two years leading the Performance Group, a group of nationally qualified swimmers.
Dan started at Nitro working with the Senior and Sectional Development groups in 2016. While running those groups he qualified 6 swimmers to the Texas Age Group Championships and 15 swimmers to the Sectional level. Following that he ran the National Development Group for two years where he qualified over 20 swimmers to the NCSA and Futures level and had numerous swimmers graduate and go on to swim at the Division I and II level of NCAA swimming. He helmed the Performance Group at Nitro from 2019-2021 and saw over 11 Winter Junior National qualifiers, 7 Summer Junior National qualifiers, two U.S. Open qualifiers and one FINA “B” cut swimmer. In 2021 the Nitro Performance Group Graduated 13 Seniors, nine of which moved on to swim in the NCAA Division I and two of which moved on to swim Division II.
Dan has over eleven years of experience coaching in USA club environments with additional experience in summer league, school, and college. He works to create culture in his teams that promote success, integrity, and teamwork in all aspects of a participants’ life. He has a proven ability to work with student-athletes both on and off the pool deck and is highly successful in developing male and female athletes to the national level in a variety of events and distances. His approach of teaching and mentoring through goal setting and planning has lead to the success and continued collegiate careers of over 60 swimmers. Most of all he is committed to character development, academic success, and developing young adults into leaders for the future, which he tries to promote everyday-with every single athlete.
Prior to his time at Nitro, Dan oversaw the development of the Life Time Swim Teams in South Texas. There he managed multiple sites and managed the business aspect of a swim team to be successful fiscally while also producing top level swimmers.
Before he moved to Texas he got his coaching start in Alabama. First at the Age Group level for Crimson Tide Aquatics in Tuscaloosa, AL, then moving on to a Volunteer Coach position at the University of Alabama. Upon graduating from U of A Dan took the reigns as the Head Senior Coach at Swim Birmingham YMCA where he saw to the team’s first 2 Summer Junior National qualifiers and first 3 YMCA National qualifiers. He departed SBY to begin his own team at the Life Time Fitness in Birmingham and created Life Time Southeast. While running LTSE Dan managed all aspects of the team including finances and competitive development. He graduated multiple Seniors to go on and swim at the NCAA level in all three divisions.
Dan is originally from State College, PA where he grew up swimming for Nittany Lion Aquatic Club. He was a member of the University of Alabama swimming & diving team from 2007-2011 and is proudly married to an Auburn graduate and BSL alumni-Claire Rozick (Brabner-formally). Claire and Dan have two sweet and chaotic boys, Reynolds (3) and Reed (1.5). Neither boy is particularly good at swimming but both are happy to put on their puddle jumpers and splash one another in the face.

Michael Bottchen Lead Age Group Coach

Michael Bottchen became an Assistant Coach of Birmingham Swim League in September of 2014.  Coach Bottchen began his coaching career down in Fort Pierce, FL for Indian River Aquatics while attending Indian River State College.  Since the start of his coaching career Coach Michael has been honored to work with and develop all levels of swimmers including many Southeastern Champions, Southeastern Top 8 finalists, US Top 10 Age Group swimmers, as well as Junior National, Senior National and Olympic Trial Qualifiers.

Prior to BSL, Coach Bottchen worked with Hoover Blue Thunder from 2010-2014. Coach Michael originally started swimming in 1997 at Shades Valley YMCA then moved to HBT in the beginning of high school. He returned to HBT as a Coach in 2010 where he started with Age Group level swimmers and worked his way into the Pre-Senior level.

Before his arrival at HBT, Coach Bottchen spent 5 total years attending Indian River State College and
while at IRSC Coach Bottchen had the privilege to learn under the guidance of former Florida State University Head Coach Frank Bradley and University of South Carolina Coach Duncan Sherrard. Under their teachings he was able to coach swimmers who were beginning their first practice all the way to Olympic athletes. 

Since his start in 2014 at BSL, Coach Bottchen has become certified as a Level 1 Crossfit trainer and an ACE Certified Personal Trainer. He has been able to use this knowledge to help the BSL athletes with their strength, power and agility in and out of the water.

Coach Bottchen grew up in Pelham and is excited to help bring success and excitement back to all levels of USA Swimming in the Birmingham area.  

Hailey Morris Assistant Age Group Coach

Hailey Morris joined the BSL coaching staff in January 2017 as an assistant age group coach. Coach Hailey began her coaching career in 2009 in Marietta, Georgia as an assistant coach for the Northampton Hammerheads summer league team. Continuing her coaching career in Georgia, from the summer of 2013 to the summer of 2016, Coach Hailey was the head coach of the Arden Lake Alligators swim team. Once Coach Hailey moved to Birmingham, she became the head coach of Riverchase Country Club and quickly joined the BSL coaching staff.

Prior to becoming a swim coach, Coach Hailey was an active swimmer. She began swimming for her neighborhood’s summer league team when she was only 4. She decided that she loved swimming and joined the club team, Chattahoochee Gold when she was 7. Coach Hailey continued to swim for them until she graduated from high school. She then went on to swim at her college, Birmingham-Southern College, from 2012 until 2016. Although her freshman year was the first year that her college had a swim team, the women’s team went on to win the conference championship in just their second year.

When Coach Hailey is not at the pool being a swim coach, she is a 4th grade special education teacher in Helena. She loves working with children and is excited to help her swimmers continue to grow their love for the sport of swimming.
