JAX 101: Basic Water Safety Skills

  • Group maximum: 5 swimmers

  • Prior skills needed: none

  • Primary goals:

    • Pool safety basics; safely entering and exiting pool

    • Blowing bubbles; submerging mouth, nose, and eyes

    • Float on front and back (assisted)

    • Kicking on front and back (assisted)

    • Jumping into the water (assisted)

    • Improved confidence and enjoyment of water activities

JAX 201: Beginner Swimmer Skills

  • Group maximum: 5 swimmers

  • Prior skills needed: Basic Skills (listed above)

  • Primary goals:

    • Bobbing (with bubbles)

    • Float (unassisted) on front and back

    • Rolling from front to back and back to front (assisted)

    • Kicking on front and back (unassisted; with kickboard)

    • Underwater arm strokes on front and back

    • Jumping into the water (unassisted)

    • Swim (any method) unassisted, distance of 5 yards or more

JAX 301: Intermediate Swimmer Skills

  • Group maximum: 5 swimmers

  • Prior skills needed: Beginner Swimmer (listed above)

  • Primary goals:

    • Float and glide (introduction to streamline) on front and back (unassisted)

    • Rolling from front to back and back to front (unassisted)

    • Swim freestyle and/or backstroke unassisted for 15 yards or more

    • Introduction to side kick and side breathing (freestyle)

    • Introduction to breaststroke kick and pull

    • Introduction to butterfly kick

JAX 401: Advanced Swimmer Skills

  • Group maximum: 5 swimmers

  • Prior skills needed: Intermediate Swimmer (listed above)

  • Primary goals:

    • Streamline on front (underwater) and back

    • Swim freestyle and backstroke unassisted for 25 yards or more

    • Beginning to breathe to the side (freestyle)

    • Basic skills for breaststroke and butterfly

    • Basic dive (deep end)
