MEET OUR COACHING STAFF

 

 

  HEAD COACH Dan Schultz was affiliated with the Santa Clara Swim Club for 3.5 years, coaching with swimming legend, Dick Jochums.  Santa Clara Swim Club has a rich tradition of producing great swimmers such as Mark Spitz and Tom Wilkens.

Coach Dan's personal swimming background began as a high-school swimmer in his home state of Indiana, where he was two-time state champion and six-time All American.  His collegiate swimming career took him to Stanford University, where he was a member of the 1998 National Championship Team and a teammate of Thunder alum, Olympian, Gabriella Rose.  Coach Schultz was also a three-time All American and three-time runner-up at the NCAA Championships.  He graduated from Stanford with a psychology degree with an emphasis in psychobiology.  He is married to Morgan, a native of Birmingham, AL. Morgan and Dan live in Collierville with their two children, Georgia Cate and Thomas. 

 

 HEAD AGE-GROUP COACH Alyson Hannan's excitement about coaching and helping swimmers improve while maintaining their love of the sport makes her an excellent addition to our team. Alyson comes to MTAC after spending  2017-18 at the YMCA in Colorado Springs where she launched a swim team prep program in addition to her duties as an aquatics director.

Coach Alyson started the men’s and women’s Swimming & Diving program at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas in 2013. By 2017, she had guided the Pioneer men’s program to a sixth place finish at the NAIA National Championships. While with WBU, Coach Alyson coached seven All-Americans and was named American Swimming Coaches Association Coach of Excellence four times. She spent four seasons as the men's and women's swimming and diving assistant at Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. In fall of 2012, she was named interim head coach during head coach Jim Kelly's leave of absence. While with the Warriors, she coached six All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference selections.

Following her collegiate career at Drury University, Coach Alyson returned to her home state of California and began pursuing her passion of coaching. She found her new career at Fullerton Aquatic Swim Team (FAST) and accredits her knowledge and skill to her mentor, Kevin Perry. While at FAST, she helped develop and coach swimmers to top finishes in Junior Olympics and assisted in  the development of senior and junior national level swimmers. Coach Alyson instilled the importance of a college education to her club teams and now has athletes at Ohio State, Michigan, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Utah State, Duke, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins and USC.

Alyson was a top national competitor throughout her career at Drury University. She was a 12-time All-American and top finisher in the 200 freestyle her senior year and named MVP for the women’s team. She was also the former record holder in the 200 free for Drury. She earned her bachelor’s in Exercise Physiology and Sports Management from Drury in the spring of 2002. In 2011, Coach Alyson finished her Master's degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine in California.

Coach Alyson did not stop at club coaching. She wanted to instill her passion at the high school level. Coach Alyson became the head swim and dive coach of Troy High School located in Fullerton, Calif. in 2008. While at Troy, she guided both men’s and women’s teams to back-to-back league titles and finished her high school career with a 24-0 women’s record and 23-1 men’s record.

Coach Alyson and her husband, James, live in Cordova with their 2 dogs, Max and Speare. 



 Nina Bailey was born and reared here in Memphis, TN. She grew up swimming for Memphis Tigers before transferring to Memphis Thunder to swim for Coach Dan. Nina set multiple records for her high school, St. Benedict and qualified for junior nationals twice in the 100 fly. After high school, Nina continued her swimming career at Missouri State University. She was a part of an elite group of swimmers that never lost a conference championship in the Missouri Valley Conference. Nina has a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Hospitality and Psychology. She is now married to Andrew, her high school boyfriend whom she met on a swim team.  Nina and Andrew live in Collierville, TN with their son, Parker.
