The Ramona Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of RST to offer age specific training for all our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each child to the best of THEIR abilities.

At ALL levels, there is an emphasis on character building, especially as related to courage, integrity, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.  Swimmers must have an equipment bag that includes a kick board, pull buoy, fins, and for Jr. Bulldogs & Bulldgos - paddles as well. An equipment bag will be provided to new swimmers when they register. 

Pre-Team ($300 per season, $100 monthly installment) - NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME

Our Pre-Team is the beginning portion of our lesson/recreational program for all swimmers who have no experience on a competitive swim team.  Pre-Team teaches the fundamental skills for freestyle and backstroke. Practice is 100% technique focus on freestyle and backstroke with the goal of completing 25 yards of each stroke.The instructor to swimmer ratio is never more than 1:4 in this group.  Swimmers do not yet need to belong to USA swimming unless they decide to participate in swim meets but must commit to the full season (monthly installment payments are available).

Swimmers must be able to complete the following prior to acceptance to Pre-Team:

  • Jump in to the deep end by themselves, roll over, float on their back for 10 seconds unaided and swim to the wall.

Pre-Team practice is offered at the SDCEA pool during the school year:

  • FALL SEASON: Monday/Wedneday or Tuesday/Thursday 3:30 - 4:00 pm or 4:00 - 4:30 pm
  • WINTER SEASON: Monday/Wednesday 4:00-4:30pm.
  • SPRING SEASON: Not available

 

Novice (2 days/week $360 per season - $120 per installment for 3 months)

Our Novice Team is the advanced portion of our lesson/recreational program for all swimmers who have little to no experience on a competitive swim team.  Novice Team teaches the fundamentals of the four competitive strokes including starts, turns, and finishes for each stroke. Practice consists of approximately 60% technique focus and 40% learning to train. Swimmers will learn all aspects of competitive swimming. Swimmers need to belong to USA swimming and will register for the Flex Program (currently $20 per year).  Swimmers MUST join for the entire season.

Swimmers must be able to complete the following prior to acceptance to Novice Team:

  • 25 yards of freestyle
  • 25 yards of backstroke

Novice practice is offered at the SDCEA pool during the school year:

  • 7-18 Year Olds:  Chose Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday 3:30 - 4:30 pm or 4 days a week 3:30-4:30 pm

Practice during summer months at the RHS Pool:

  • 7-18 Year Olds: Monday through Thursday 8:30 - 9:30 or 9:30 to 10:30

Junior Bulldogs Team ($500 per season - $167 per installment for 3 months)

This is our competitive team for swimmers ages 9 and older.  Select 8-year old's may be asked to join this group if they have multiple A times.  This Team begins to work on one or two training sets per day, a priority on drills and stroke work they learned in the Novice Group is maintained.  At this level, the focus turns from learning just the basic strokes to learning how to race and how to train to compete with 40% technique focus and 60% learning to train. Swimmers MUST belong to USA swimming. Swimmers must be able to complete the following prior to acceptance on the Junior Bulldog Team:

Commit to training 6 hours a week (4 practices).  Multi- sport athletes may alter this commitment based on participation in other sports with approval from the head coach.

  • Read a pace clock
  • Legal 100 IM with legal turns
  • Racing start from a diving block entering the water in tight streamline position.
  • Ready position and streamline from the wall during training.
  • 6x50 each stroke with legal turns
  • 10x100 Freestyle on 2:00
  • 15 x 50 kick on 1:20

Bulldog Team ($675 per season - $225 per installment for 3 months)

Our Bulldog Team, considered our “competitive team”, is comprised of swimmers with experience swimming at meets.  During training sessions athletes are expected to perform sets in the proper way, maintaining consistent stroke rates and times during training and maintaining appropriate heart rate levels.  They will continue to develop an understanding of energy systems, nutritional requirements for athletes, and set specific, daily, short-term goals as well as long-term goals.  They will be expected to complement their swim with a personal stretching, sit-ups and push-ups routine at home.  An emphasis is put on swimming fast and competing with intensity as a team with 20% focus on technique and 80% focus on training. Swimmers must be able to complete the following prior to acceptance on the Bulldog Team:

  • Competitive experience:
    • 10 and under: at least one JO cut
    • 11-12: at least one “A” Time
    • 13 and over: at least one “B” Time
  • Commit to training 10 hours a week (5 practices).  Multi-sport athletes may alter this commitment based on participation in other sports with approval from the head coach.
  • 12 & Under year old’s Test Sets:
    • 4 x 200 IM on 3:45
    • 7 x 100 K on 2:10
    • 16 x 100 Fr on 1:35, back on 1:50, breast on 2:00, or 9 x 100 Fly on 2:00
  • 13+ Yr old Test Sets:
    • 6 x 200 IM on 3:40
    • 8 x 100 kick on 2:10
    • 16 x 100 freestyle on 1:25, back on 1:40, breast on 1:50, or 12 x 100 fly on 1:50
  • Can perform a continuous swim for 30 minutes.
  • Racing start from a diving block entering the water in tight streamline position.
  • Ready position and streamline from the wall during training.
  • Mentors younger or less achieved athletes.

 

Morning Only Practice ($150 per season - NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME

We are offering morning practice for our Bulldog swimmers who want to keep the high level of training that comes from the early morning practices.  

Practice is offered during the school year:

  • Tuesday and Friday 5:30-6:45 AM at the RHS Pool (arrive at 5:15am)
